The Muppets are ending their relationship with fast food restaurant chain Chick-Fil-A in a show of support for gay marriage, the creators of the puppet troupe said on Monday.
"The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors," the company said in a statement posted on their official Facebook page.
The Henson company, named after the creator of lovable characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, supplied their Creature Shop Muppet toys to Chick-Fil-A for children's meal packages but decided to sever ties after recent statements by the fast-food chain's Chief Executive Dan Cathy.
Cathy told the Baptist Press in a recent interview the company supported the "traditional family," and "the biblical definition of the family unit."
The Henson company, whose Muppet characters are hugely popular, said its Chief Executive Lisa Henson is a "strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD," the company said in their statement.

I can imagine that we will soon be seeing the Jerry Sandusky muppet joining the ranks of Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, and the Swedish Chef.
Be a bit hard for Jim to do it.. But exactly. The almighty question: What is going to happen when gays and feminists run headlong into Muslims? The trifecta of liberal religions.. White straight men are evil, unless they are Muslim.
The death penalty for being gay? Shhh, shhh, don’t talk about that. Covering a woman from head to toe, lest someone’s eyes glance towards them and she be murdered in the street like a rabid dog? Shh, shh, don’t talk about that. Girls raped because they learned how to spell their name? Shh, shh, don’t talk about that.
If someone pulled the stool out from under liberals, I have no idea how they’ll fall. Because without double standards, they have no standards at all.
Go ahead and peek around out there - there are gays who are defending the child molester of Penn State, saying a ten year old boy should be able to make his own choices, while saying at the same time we should be toleration of goat herders who kill women in the streets for daring to speak a word to another man.
Marriage is the union of a man and a woman. The worst mistake ever made was done by our presumptive nominee, when the Massachusetts State Supreme court through down the gauntlet, stating that every single marriage in Massachusetts was unconstitutional unless gays were included. The only response was to call the bluff and say ‘sounds good to me, Massachusetts no longer is in the marriage business.’
Let us gather behind the one who betrayed every marriage in the United States and cheer him on. Oh, right, shh, shh, don’t talk about that...
Hey, look at that, we’re finally compromising with liberals by sharing their standards.
Didn’t know Muppets stuff was still in production. Maybe they can help JCPenny back on their feet.
My youngest child watched Sesame St. back when it was just for kids. Since they started brain-washing for the libs, I won’t let my grandchildren watch it. The watch the old “violent” cartoons that are actually entertaining. Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Daffy Duck. I also choose good movies to show them.
Didn’t Henson make a movie about a man who didn’t know if he was homo or not? IN AND OUT. What a name!
Nah that was Frank Oz.
Chik Filet is roped into a dumb discussion. Why did a restaurant get roped into a discussion about gays?
Whoop-dee-frickin’-doo. The muppets aren’t funny anymore anyway.
How can you be a conservative and take the middle ground on this issue?
Keep in mind ... the owner of Chick-Fil-A didn't just start parading around his opinion. He was asked a question about it and he answered it. The media are the ones making this a big deal.
I certainly will think twice about letting my child watch Sesame Street after this.
See post 49.
You can’t and I don’t. I am just sick of businesses getting involved in completely unrelated political battles. I don’t need to know who the guy who delivers my pizza voted for, or where my local hotdog vendor stands on NAFTA.
Sesame Street was a conspiracy to shorten our children’s attention span and give them ADD.
Well if this bothers you so much why in the hell do you come to FR? I applaud Chic-Filet. All the detractors are clueless scum. This is but one example why this country needs another civil war!

You should take that up with the folks who are badgering corporations that support various organizations into stopping their support for those organizations. If CFA wants to support the Boy Scouts or Focus on the Family or whatever, then so be it. But gay marriage advocates pretty much force those corporations to either stop supporting pro-heterosexual organizations or be hung. At least there is one company willing to say they stand with traditional family values. Does that mean CFA does not sell to homosexuals, fornicators, adulterers, etc.? No. It just means that they don’t support gay marriage. So what.
Give them plastic swords and rubber knives instead. That will drive the liberals nuts.”
Just a toy plastic gun will be enough to drive them over the cliff.
First of all, I’m a huge Chick Fil-A fan. Guess that started when I gave blood after 9-11 & got a coupon for a free Chick Fil-A sandwich.
As for the Muppets, all I ever got out of that show was my girlfriend who loved the Muppet show so much one evening I dragged her out of the bedroom saying “the Muppets are on!” Wasn’t till after we were in the living room with the TV on that she realized she was naked to the waist. That’s thirty four years now. Some memories endure. Will always have a soft spot for Miss Piggie.
;^)
I’m currently on a business trip in Goodyear, AZ. There is one close to the hotel. I’ll try them tomorrow. Never been to one before.
