All these problems in college football and basketball exist because the NFL and NBA have been sucking off the taxpayer teat to provide them with a minor-league farm system. You never hear about scandals involving college baseball programs because while some players go to college and then to the major leagues, it is not required that a good player attend college like the NFL requires. A good baseball player who is good has the option of going into the minor leagues right after high school.

With a privately or league financed minor league system most of the good football and basketball players would play minor league for pay. This would relieve some of the pressure on universities to put aside all academic and ethical standards in the name of football or basketball.

I agree wholeheartedly. Now if we could only find a way to "relieve some of the pressure on universities to put aside all academic and ethical standards in the name of football liberalism or basketball political correctness."

You’re a 1000% right, but I don’t see reform in the future. College football and hoops are a tradition. But I don’t think the NFL and NBA should get off scot free, either.

Good thought provoking post.
