Back in the day My sister was a cop for Penn State. She arrested a football player for some offense and he told my Sister that When Paterno find out she arrested him, she would lose her job.
The next day Joe Paterno called my sister to his office. There was the footballer player. He made this guy apologise to my sister for the trouble he caused and told her if she ever had a problem with any of his guys he would handle it the same way. My Sister was impressed with the way Joe wouldnt try to brush it under the rug.
That was in the late 80s, early 90s. Then he had guts and held his men accountable. I guess it no longer mattered as long as he got his record. My Sister was heartbroken when the whole Sandusky thing broke. Another hero with feet of clay.
JoePa got his record, but sold his soul for it.

And again I want to reiterate. That Paterno ruined solely his legacy. It's a shame JoePa willingly enabled boys to be molested by a monster and by doing that he destroyed his legacy and may have guaranteed himself a spot in hell. Imagine what would happened if he had reported this when it happened. Odds would be that that statue would still be there, and that his name would still be on the Big Ten trophy. It saddens part of me because as a Big Ten alum I used to think Paterno was a great coach and a great figure in football.
