Problem with that one was it would have Paterno and most college football fans against the fruits and weirdos. It's a battle they knew they couldn't win at the time. Had it happened now they would be in a better position thanks today's mainstreaming of their sick behavior. Joe Pa could have gone down in flames but his legacy would be stellar. That fight could have had implications outside of sports, to the benefit of all good people.

Completely agree. Paterno always said that he aspired to things beyond football. He had his chances, but he never took them. This was his last really big challenge and he flunked miserably.
