ST. ALBANS Chris Davis was lured to the St. Albans municipal swimming pool by two local residents who beat and robbed him in late March, city police say.
There is some question as to whether Davis, 22, of Swanton, was alive or dead when they were finished, according to Police Chief Gary L. Taylor. Police have conflicting reports.
Davis, who was reported missing March 30, was found floating face down in the half-filled pool on April 16.
The two men, Travis Bugbee and Brian Ross, both 23 of St. Albans, pleaded not guilty to assault and robbery with injury when they were arraigned Thursday in Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans. Bugbee also denied a charge of unlawful mischief.
I saw Brian Ross at the Hindenburg disaster. He was on the tower.
