It works both ways. My nephew has been a (contract) meter reader in some really rough neighborhoods. After getting scared a couple of times, he went to training, got his CCW, and carried concealed while making his rounds. No further problems. Maybe the bulge at his side made a loud statement.

A lound statement for what - intruding on people's property at the point of a gun to install something they believe will harm them, rather than backing away and letting the company pursue legal means?

He has no warrant, he has no cause other than to leave when ordered. Period. In fact, why wasn't he fired for packing heat to do his job? Is he bonded? Will the company back him up for shooting someone who orders him off their property, when he refuses to leave?

Your ignorance is astounding. And if your "nephew" really exists, he should be fired, before someone blows his ass away for threatening them with lethal force on their own property.

The problem is easily solves, if you do not want what a private industry is selling then don’t buy, you can always buy your own generator, or get solar or wind power, the world survived before AC/DC

He’s a METER READER, Confucious, he’s not installing anything. Try reading before spouting off.

He READS the meter. He doesn’t install it. If you don’t want a meter reader on your property, then generate your own electricity.

Read his post again. You're overreacting. His nephew's carrying a gun has nothing at all to do with installing smart meters. It's because he's working in "rough" parts of the city and he felt unsafe.

Have you ever had to work in rough neighborhoods in the inner-city? Trust me, those people don't give a damn about smart meters or stupid meters. They don't even pay the bill usually.

“...intruding on people’s property at the point of a gun to install something they believe will harm them...”

Talisker, I cannot believe you posted what I am reading...did you read tgusa’s post? Did you understand it? His nephew was a meter reader in a nasty neighborhood, and after being hassled/threatened on several occasions, he got a CCW for protection when making his rounds. He was not installing anything...he was reading meters. Got a problem with that? Got a problem with the nephew being ready to protect himself doing his job?

Where is the ‘ignorance’...

“And if your “nephew” really exists, he should be fired, before someone blows his ass away for threatening them with lethal force on their own property. “

Buddy of mine worked for a cable company in some ghetto areas and carried concealed despite company policy. His attitude was better to get fired than be dead and no good to his wife/kids.

He’s a VP now in the same company and still carries when he has to go out in the field.

Mr Talisker,

I believe you may owe Mr tgusa an apology. Nowhere in his post did he write that his nephew was installing "smart meters." If the power company is supplying energy they have a right to read the plain, old-fashioned meter. My understanding of Mr tgusa's post was that was what his nephew was doing, just in a pretty rough neighborhood where he needed a little protection.

You wrote to Mr tgusa, "Your ignorance is astounding. Tsk, tsk! In no regard was that called for, now was it?
