Jeff Sessions: More Americans Are Collecting Disability Than Finding Jobs

Take a look at these two charts, courtesy of the Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper:

This is an alarming trend. The United States, increasingly, is becoming a nation where more and more Americans are collecting government checks than finding jobs. And, considering only 1 percent of Social Security disability recipients ever return to the workforce (according to Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions), this disturbing tendency will have significant and perhaps sweeping implications. These numbers also come on the heels of The One’s decision last week -- as Guy explained yesterday -- to unilaterally dismantle then-President Clinton’s historic (and successful!) welfare reforms of the 1990s. This, in effect, takes a giant ax to the legislation’s work requirements, creating a disincentive for welfare recipients to seek "real" employment opportunities, and thus fostering more government dependency. Sadly, too, more Americans are on food stamps than ever before (about 45 million), and Congress seems woefully unable – or unwilling -- to work across party lines and solve the nation's fiscal challenges.

This is a crucial time for our country -- after all, this year's presidential contest could be the most important election of our lifetime -- and we need a chief executive who espouses policies that will reignite the entrepreneurial spirit of the Americans people, thereby creating economic opportunity in this country for the tens of millions of Americans who are unemployed, underemployed or have stopped looking for work. Indeed, there are stark differences between the two candidates running for president this year -- not the least of which is President Obama’s jarring conviction that entrepreneurial success in America derives not from hardworking individuals, but from government institutions. This is a philosophy we simply cannot afford for another four years.

That’s all nice and good but what are he and his colleagues doing to ease job creation?

Bold words are meaningless without bold actions.

That is alarming to see that many added in that time span.

These articles suggest that all those on disability aren’t disabled. I’m sure there are some but I don’t think it’s as rampant as some believe.

The uptick in employment reflects the increase in Liberal lawyers jumping on board to 'FIGHT FOR YOUR DISABILITY RIGHTS'... Other job growth is related to creating and distributing EBT cards...

Thanks Obama - the Disability scam - where adults collect Social Security for 50 and 60 years - starting in their 20's will bankrupt the system for the elderly, destroy it for people who really ARE disabled, and turn the scammers into drug addicted animals... Oh, and deny retirement to the 90% of white Americans who will be asked to work until they drop - on the job - in their 80's....

Drive in some inner city neighborhood and notice all the signs for 'We'll fight for YOU disability rights'. Go down to your local Social Security office and you'll see that more than half the people on any given day are look a lot like gang bangers...

The crime here is that when the scammers bankrupt the system, those people who really are disabled - along with senior citizens too old to work - will die. Some might have family - those who don't will die. Think about it.

“I’m sure there are some but I don’t think it’s as rampant as some believe.”

Do you see the commercials that run on daytime TV (while people are working)? How long can someone watch them, while simultaneously watching their unemployment insurance run out, before they put 2 and 2 together?

We’ve had too many scams BEFORE the job market crashed to believe that many people are honestly disabled.

After what I saw on FNC this morning, Barry might need to start a training program to teach people HOW to be “disabled”. Anyone else see the clip of the loon trying to drive a “Wallymobile” onto an escalator? Jeee....! What I dork. I had already figured out that wouldn’t work out long before I ever reached puberty.

So ... bring back jobs.

It’s not complicated at all.

Bring back jobs.

Same thing at tax time.

Tax prep outfits on every street corner.

Sucking up those "earned income" credits

right from Uncle Sugar's mouth:

The EITC is a refundable tax credit. This means you may get money back, even if you have no tax withheld. Nationwide last year, almost 26.8 million eligible individuals and families received over $59.5 billion total in EITC.

Generally, the EITC has no effect on welfare benefits. In most cases, EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), supplemental nutrition assistance program (food stamps), low-income housing or most Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments. Though unemployment benefits are not earned income, they are taxable and thus affect the amount of EITC you can receive.

$464 with no qualifying children $3,094 with one qualifying child $5,112 with two qualifying children $5,751 with three or more qualifying children

From what I’m reading, the number of people obtaining disability has increased dramatically since 2008. The rate shouldn’t change all that much over time. Because it has since 2008, it’s a good indicator that a number of them “may” not be clinically disabled.

It is complicated; American workers can’t compete with workers overseas who work for a bowl of noodles a day without workers comp, disability insurance, sick days, etc. Flooding the US and European markets with slave-made products will naturally idle our own workers; now we don’t even have the money to buy their cheap lead-tainted sh!t anymore.

There is a reason why Red Chinese workers are committing suicide; they are already at the rock-bottom towards which we are heading. I’ve stated on other threads: we’re not just at the point where home ownership is a thing of the past; we’ve reached a point where CAR ownership will soon be a thing of the past as well. Both will simply be rented/leased; it already killed the housing market, and now the auto market is reeling. Like Red Chinese slaves, one child will be the max (by economics rather than outright force); many Americans are already stuck at 0 children (and that won’t be changing any time soon). rather than see the obvious depopulation occurring, we simply import replacements to fill our vacant schools, neighborhoods and such.

I see these studies explaining the differences in Americans using such criterion as race and education; the biggest difference I can ever see between myself and another person is whether or not they watch weekday television.

Occasionally on holidays I’ll watch TV on a Monday morning; when I do I very clearly understand why there is a Democrat Party, and what kind of people it is composed of. A person that works all day has NOTHING in common with the people they support while they sit on their asses watching daytime TV.

It is actually very depressing; in my area many people go to work, and the “others” then roam looking to rob your house while you do so. A good number of retirees serve as vigilant watchmen, so we’ve been OK so far.

No surprise that Jerry Springer was “thrilled” with Baraq:

The shyster lawyers are everywhere, not just the ghetto. Plus, I doubt if many in the ghetto qualify. They never worked.

But lawers like Bender and Bender are playing a numbers game. They run ads and weed out the ones they don’t think they’ll make money on. They won’t take the case until you’re rejected the first time. Why? Because the SS regulations says the attorney can only collect 25% of the backpay. Then the only thing they do is fill out the forms. And if they win, and it’s a numbers game, they get 25% for filling out the paperwork.

And again I’ll say I don’t think there are that many doctors out there doing crooked stuff. The doctor doesn’t even reccommend to SS that you get disability. They simply send the medical files to SS.

What I do think happened is SS was way too lax on their requirements and more and more people were being approved. Now, they’ve tightened up, and like you say, people who should be getting SS disability are getting caught in the shuffle.

I didn’t see it but they were taking about it on Fox News Happening Now when my husband and I drove home from his doctor’s appointment and we were listening to it on my Sirius radio.
