Nice to have our old and sometimes unappreciated friends sticking up for us. I take no pleasure in any way at what could be a bit of a mess. One could hand out the kudos for the Berlin Olympics prior to WW2. The peak of efficiency and recorded by "Triumph of the Will" documentary by a German woman.
Trouble was that old Adolf could not keep his nose out of Poland. The fool could have basked in all the glory he wanted. Ah well.....
I was a young man starting work in post war England in 1948. I did not have the money to go to nearby Wembley for a looksee. I remember the losing efforts track and field for a gold medal. Poor the English people were, by today's standards. So bloomin' optimistic though. Everyone had a job- if they wanted one. Few bore the actual civilian population of Germany any real ill will- 'cept the British communists, who were detested by George Orwell.
Or Czechoslovakia, or Austria, or France, or Holland, or Belgium, or Denmark, or Norway.......
Mr. Libra I noticed lots of Anglophiles here including me. So thank you for the compliment and appreciation from across the pond in Old Virginia.
