No matter who they supported, many Republicans felt uneasy as they watched the intra-party war unfold. Many voters and insiders alike remarked that when the general election campaign came around, Romney had better attack Barack Obama with the same ferocity he attacked Gingrich. (And, at other times in the primary season, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum.) Otherwise, it would look like Romney took more relish in attacking fellow Republicans than in taking on Obama. Romney had won the Republican nomination in significant part by operating a death star a machine that could rain down holy hell on opponents, if thats what winning required. He had better give the same treatment to Obama.
Now, the general election campaign is here, and the talk is of the Obama killing machine, not the Romney death star. By most accounts, the Romney campaign is not displaying the super-aggressive effectiveness
Used to be back in the days where people read newspapers and mail, or watched TV news ~ that’s what you would do. Now, you want to lay the landmines early, replenish them from time to time, and just keep that up ~ eventually you’ll get the story over to just about everybody.
Take THAT question and lay it at the feet of the GOP Socialist Party, where it belongs. In their absence, we are left to rally a write-in whom we might unify behind in some decent numbers.
Two socialist/Marxists are not a vote, Scott.
Thx. Rita
We have yet to get any of Romney's campaigning ~ this is Virginia. He stops and sees a few wealthy people and asks them to donate more money but there's no dealing directly with the people.
This, BTW, is the KEY state in the entire election and you just don't see Romney acting like that is reality.
I think he wants to lose.
Paul, like Romney, is not a real Republican ~
Tactically Romney may be wise waiting till only a week or two before hitting Obama with numerous attacks leaving Obama little or no time to respond.
I’m sick to my stomach at how weak Romney is running this campaign so far. Embarassing beyond words.
I have the feeling that the Romney camp thought the bad economy was going to do their work for them. It still might, but it beggars the imagination that the Romney campaign was not immediately ready to counter Bain-related attacks and did not have several years of tax returns released - and did not have all of Romney's money out of foreign bank accounts years ago.
IMO they got soft due to Romney's overwhelming money advantage in the primary. He doesn't have that now. Now he is against an opponent who will go even lower with the negative attacks than Romney did - and Romney does not seem prepared in advance to counter that.
The Republicans (aka GOP-e) have lost more elections over the last 80 years than they’ve won ~ so, no, they don’t know!
For the same reason that kings don't punish court jesters. It would dignify the jester at the expense of the king's dignity.
Looks like Byron York doesn't think Romney's anything but a whiner.
Don't you think it's time the ABO's kicked Romney a bit to see if they could get him started?
As much as I believe in freedom of speech, Deb, the Republican Party is NOT the government. It is a private organization. It is not in their best interest to have the best-heeled guy bury the faithful republicans because of a huge money advantage.
They desperately need to change their rules.
First, there should be no cross-overs. If you're not a republican you shouldn't be picking the repub candidate.
Second, they should foreswear primaries and turn to caucuses. That forces the interested to do something about their interest. They have to show up and caucus.
Third, prior to any caucuses, they should find a way for candidates to rise from congressional districts rather than self-announce.
Fourth, I'd probably make all states proportional with none being winner take all. That will send more final selections to the convention, but if someone can't generate a majority, then the party needs to discuss the right course of action.
Rather a reversal of what the Democrats do as a matter of course.
And then, the coward prefers women with children
while He, MYTH ROMNEYCARE, plays the perpetual victim.
Well, yes, Paul is a Libertarian and a true RINO because of that.
It tickles me to death when I hear or read a Paul supporter call someone else a RINO. I'm like, "Really?".
But Romney never went after him. I found that to be conspicuously strange. But no one mentioned it...
A lof of this could be explained by the article’s point number #4 for those who care to read it.
Good work, xzins.
A conservative (R) Party would supply all of this and more.
A socialist (R) Party will snort at such things.
And to think we could have had President Santorum with VP Gingrich or visa versa.....lost opportunities and now we are stuck with the worst candidate in the history of the United States who will most likely lose this election.
Right.
So, who?
Im sick to my stomach at how weak Romney is running this campaign so far. Embarassing beyond words.
ROTFLMAO....like you didn’t know he was a disaster the minute he announced he was running. I know you are a fan and I won’t fault you for your delusion but I knew this was a bad idea from day one....Tried to warn you and others and you thought you knew better. I guess you best makes some lemonaide out the lemons you chose.....Next time maybe you will listen to the conservatives on Free Republic. You might not want to listen to the conservatives, but we have the United States first in mind. You guys just thought Romney was the best for the win....very shortsighted you were.
I voted for Ron Paul in the NYS primary.
FAIL
