On Palin & her potential lack of an invitation to the GOP convention (Palin would scare moderates)

Yesterday morning Ed tagged a Newsweek article that tried to make hay out of the fact that Palin may not receive an invitation to speak at the GOP convention. Ed pointed out that this may not actually be a big deal, both to Palin and the grassroots, and I agree with comments made below the post by RBJ and Skwor that it’s likely just Newsweek trying to create controversy out of nothing substantive.

However, this is where RBJ, Skwor and a great deal of the Hot Air viewership and I may split our views. While I am not a fan of Mitt Romney’s candidacy, and think he is far too moderate in almost every way, I am not disappointed that Palin may not speak at the convention. In fact, I’m quite pleased.

However, I think the negatives of such an appearance outweigh the net positives for those whose sole electoral goal is to get Obama out of office — including potentially scaring off moderate voters who are open to voting for Romney and giving the liberal media the opportunity to attach Romney to the largely unpopular Palin.

I am not even especially rooting for Romney to win and am critical of him and not even playing ABBBO, however I am pissed and complaining that MR is not beating him (Obama)down and effectively hurting him in the race(we need obama weak even if he happens to win) ; but the no_brainer Palinista calls anyone who poo-poos on his silly Palin wet dreams a Romney-bot.

Delegates are not the only criterion for speaking at the convention (Reagan, ‘64 a perfect example) so his comment was either ignorant, or just agitprop. (he’s well known for both)

Few would say that there could be any better choice than Palin to speak at the convention if the fool has any intention of winning, which is seriously in question at this time.

The example of Reagan in '64 is utterly irrelevant. Why? I'll help you out here: Reagan speaking at the Cow Palace in '64 was due to his unconditional and unqualified support for Barry Goldwater. If it had been Nelson Rockefeller who had secured the nomination that year, it is highly unlikely that a conservative like Reagan (or Goldwater) would have been invited to speak in behalf of a liberal Republican like Rocky. Just like Palin is unlikely to be invited to speak in behalf of our latter day Rockefeller-style RINO. Hell, Sarah will be lucky to get an invite to the cheap seats way up in the ceiling, based on that GOP-e crowd.

Few would say that there could be any better choice than Palin to speak at the convention if the fool has any intention of winning, which is seriously in question at this time.

Who are you kidding? Do you actually think that Romney is going to subject himself to the same debacle that took place in '08 when Sarah Palin was on the ticket with McStain? Ironically, you and I are actually on the same page regarding Sarah Palin, I get the impression that you (like many of her supporters) think there could be an outside shot that IF she gave a major speech at the convention, that she could be nominated by acclimation, which is a quaint and nostalgic notion from an age gone by, but I can understand how people would pray for that to happen, because Romney has all the charisma and appeal of a mashed potato sandwich, I mean IMAGINE: the GOP is about to nominate the guy who lost to McCain 4 years ago!!!

Thanks SJB, it is obvious that we're dealing with a deranged victim of 'PIIS', Palin-Information-Insulation-Syndrome, an affliction which causes past and present supporters of Sarah Palin to shut down their reasoning faculties, refusing to allow their minds to acknowledge, let alone accept any data regarding the object of their adoration except that which is totally unconditional worship with shouts of 'hosannah in the highest'.
