People on this site used to be passionate about Condoleeza Rice (in a good way) as this 2002 Free Republic thread clearly shows.

What has changed? People here charge that she voted for Obama but I can't find proof of that anywhere. People also say she's pro-abortion and I can't find that anywhere either. Realize that I'm defining "pro-abortion" as somebody who advocates for and encourages the practice.

Here's another 2002 Free Republic Condi Rice thread (same article) with even more rapturous Freeper response.

What has changed the most over the past 10 years? Condi Rice or Free Republic?

As there IS no perfection in humans, thus it’s impossible to achieve it, I sure can’t castigate her cruelly, especially given the chaos after 9/11 and the new security profile we had to assume. I believe they did the best they could in this new normal of asymmetrical warfare, and I’m so grateful for Pres. Bush and VP Cheney’s team that we survived such a horrendous blow as well as we did. Folks seem to forget what it was like in the days and months afterward ...

And, against ALL odds and predictions, there were no further attacks, praise God and the resolve of that team and our brave troops in so diligently safeguarding us, 24/7.

And now, hearing her Park City speech, if she were borderline on her ideological position, it appears that’s changed. Her words resounded with a striking urgency and fear, seeing and digesting the path of total, intentional weakening, across the board of this country, engineered by this monstrous radical. She sure wasn’t shy about it, and she sounded very sober and fearful ... and with good reason. When harsh reality finally smacks you .. whenever it does .. it strikes hard.

Rush has the details of her speech

~ ~ ~

RICE: It is a narrative that is being pushed by our current president that “I’m doing poorly because you’re doing well.” That has never been the American narrative. Ours has never been a narrative of aggrievement, and ours has never been a narrative of entitlement. It has been one of empowerment. And that, too...

AUDIENCE: (applause)

RICE: And that, too, is why we need a change in Washington. We need a change in Washington because the essence of who we are as Americans is at stake.

RUSH: Yeah, the people that were there said, “This woman made it sound like the country is hanging by a thread, that we’re on the verge of going totally socialist.” They’re just not used to hearing her talk that way. When she says here that Obama is pushing this business, “I’m doing poor because you’re doing well,” she’s apparently shocked at this. I don’t know where she’s been, but she’s apparently shocked at it and got all revved up about it. That got everybody in the crowd revved up about it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here is the second sound bite, Condoleezza Rice at the big Romney confab in Park City, Utah, June 22, 23, and 24.

RICE: Since the essence of who we are as Americans is at stake, so is the essence of what the international community may become. And don’t think for a minute that if we don’t lead, someone won’t. And that someone might be a country that doesn’t believe in free markets and free peoples. That is why it is time for all of us, in any way that we can, to mobilize, to get our act together, to storm Washington, DC, with somebody who understands that. (applause)

Let’s see, hmm, a squishy moderate, pro-choice, no background in economics, dull as Mitt, terrible record at her last government job, probably a lesbian... what could possibly be wrong with that?
