Occupy L.A.'s chalk protests prompt melee, free-speech debate
July 14, 2012 | 7:34 am

The melee that occurred in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night over a chalk protest by Occupy L.A. and homeless-rights advocates has raised questions over freedom of speech.

A small group of activists gathered at the corner of 5th and Spring streets during the heart of downtown's popular monthly ArtWalk, handing out chalk to passersby and using the sidewalks as their canvas for more anti-gentrification and some anti-police slogans.

For reasons that are not entirely clear, clashes began between some activists and LAPD officers, resulting in a melee that left four officers injured and more than 15 people arrested. The LAPD called a citywide tactical alert, streamed hundreds of officers into downtown and used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

Uh-oh. Questions are being raised.

Whenever the MSM gets caught red-handed on the wrong side of the issue, they always say “questions are being raised.”

Note the passive voice. No specifics about what the questions are, or who is “raising” the question.

Note the verb “raising.” Normally, a question is “asked,” and an answer is expected.

When a question is only “raised,” there may or may not be an answer to the question. The “raising” of the question is what’s important, what we must pay attention to. The fact that it’s a stupid question that reveals something about the basic level of sanity of the one doing the “raising” doesn’t have to be addressed, or even looked into.

It is strange, sometimes, how liberals can have the opportunity to learn something clarifying, but then squander it away and fall back to their normal catchphrases and group-think. Rights aren't given, they are earned by those who would exercise them.

To the Occupottiers, they would fight for the freedom of speech, to bring grievances to the government, and when it is denied, or their rights denied and taken from them, they do not blame those who did it, but instead apply blame to an uninvolved third party. In this case, they blame the so called 1%’ers for sicking the police on them.

It is instead their ‘mother state’ of all encompassing government which did it. The twins of the bill of rights can never be separated. You can not have the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly without being able to enforce your rights through the 2nd amendment.

But that is how they operate. They whine that they have rights, yet openly operate to deny those rights to others. They want thought crimes used against those who do not believe strictly as they do. The freedom of a religion is directly proportional to the amount it is against a Christian or Jew. It is only their right to assemble they support, conservatives should be put down.

The Occupotty Movement shall forever be nothing more than a movement of bowels. They support a restrictive and all encompassing government, then whine when it stops their games. They blame others for the creature they created and feed.

But sometimes, I hope, people will look on, watching these losers be smashed down time and time again, and be inspired to change the system. To listen to their cries of ‘oppression’ and realize that yes, it is the government that oppresses, not the boogyman 1%. It is a lesson that is far beyond the ability to grasp by the Occupottiers, but even manure can be used to grow the tree of liberty.
