I look at unions like a citizen looks at someone with the ebola virus. They are parasites, I have to agree with Freeper UC, but a “few bad apples”? The union members are not holding their leadership accountable. That’s my problem. I respect firemen and LEO’s but do NOT hold the public taxpayer hostage because your salary and pension dictates it.

Perpetual unions are a bane on society in general; public unions are an abomination to limited government and a millstone around the neck of the taxpayer.

I do not need the "MSM's" template to figure out the strain organized labor has produced upon civilization, especially public management.

I think Uncle Chip was speaking specifically about the St. Louis FF union, the corruption within it, and the union's bullheaded refusal to agree to any concession... they would rather the city fall than lose their grip on the taxpayer teat.

I, on the other hand, see this as endemic to all unions. Very, very few of the union leaders care about how they get their $$ and who they hurt in the process. And unfortunately the firefighters (police officers, bus drivers, hospital service workers, etc.) have learned from their leaders and now the rot is invading the rank and file, by those who are using the "disability" retirement fraudulently.

50% is way more than “a few”, my friend. It’s even worse in IL. The firefighters and cops double dipping on pensions is literally bankrupting the entire State.

And the only disability most of them are suffering is morbid obesity. Yes, there are a very, very few who are genuinely disabled. But most of them are nebulous back and soft tissue injuries which can never be objectively diagnosed.

It’s a scam.
