U.S. President Barack Obama leads presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney 50-43 among registered voters nationwide, a poll released Thursday found.

Obama is favored by 88 percent of Democrats while 89 percent of Republicans favor Romney, who leads among independent voters 46 percent to 45 percent for Obama. The poll found 34 percent of Romney backers said they support him strongly, while 64 percent of Obama voters said they support him strongly. snip
Unemployment remains the No. 1 issue for voters overall. Forty-six percent said they favored Romney on the issue, and 42 percent favored Obama.
However, Romney has gone from an 8-point advantage on the question of which candidate is better able to improve the economy, to an 8-point deficit, trailing Obama on the issue 48 percent to 42 percent.
The poll was conducted by landline and cellphone June 28-July 9, 2012 among 2,973 adults, including 2,373 registered voters. The samples were weighted to account for demographic composition, with sampling errors taking into account the effect of weighting.
Pew said the survey has a 95 percent level of confidence for different groups.

I think Tom’s now running for head Coo-Coo at Coco Puffs.
Well, do you know who’s running on the Falcon ticket then?! < breathless>
Um, um...PISSant?
Meh. You can’t oversample democrats, then claim a lead. Not to me anyways.
He gets no coverage. I imagine he polls fairly well in Virginia, his own state, where he has name recognition.
I imagine Gary Johnson does well in whatever was his state, but without coverage, there is no support.
However, I’d bet that if you put Goode in the debates with Obama and Romney that he’d be at 25% in no time.
That's not exactly accurate when you're still 4 months out.
Those voters, since they are already REGISTERED to vote, simply have to be motivated enough to go to the polls.
Likely voters are a far more accurate measure when you get close to the actual election. After the conventions, likely voters is the only survey worth listening to. 4 months prior, there are still many people who simply aren't interested yet.
But if he had run as a Republican, he'd have my vote.
You’re exactly right about the polls which is why I suggested this one not be paid attention to. Only the “likely voters”, close to Nov. are valid. Although the polls just before the Reagan/Carter election were HUGELY wrong.
Actually, I don’t think he’d cause Romney to lose. I think the race would be between him and Romney. According to polls for years now the electorate is divided: left 23%, right 40% and middle 37%. (or thereabouts.)
What that means is in a 3-way race a conservative would have an advantage if the conservatives stuck together.
Mitt, though, has shown that he really wants to go after the middle-middle and the left-middle vote. He’d be going after some of Obama’s support, just as he really wants to do.
So, I think it would come down to the middle of the roader and the conservative.
I agree wholeheartedly. From October on, the polls will be telling us something important.
The Repub convention is last week of August, iirc, and the Dems are 1st week of September.
That’s when it heats up.
However, what this registered voter poll tells us is that independents are slightly leaning to Romney right now. The methodology tells us that Obama’s support is probably less than this poll shows. So, we’ve got a dead-even race at this point.
For Romney supporters, that means they really need to kick their candidate into gear to keep the dems/media from definining him and his issues and caricaturing him. He really shouldn’t have gone on vacation.
The presidency means nothing without a conservative House and Senate. We just need a GOP pres. to sign the bills put on his desk.
wow! obama has it in bag!
no need to even go out and vote for him- he got it easy...
National polls are meaningless. Swing state polls are most important. Better yet, quit watching polls and assume you are 5 points down. If Romney is going to win, he is going to win this in October. If the election was held today though, Romney would get crushed. There is a LOT of work to do.
yippee.....the freeper vote weighs in....congraulations all...
you get to bitch no matter what....
now, that's a career extender!
oh now...you are rejoiceing...
congratulations to you and your kin....you'll give us another 4 yrs, maybe forever, for bamey to finish destroying America...
it will be remembered....
but your faith does allow for border patrol agents to be killed?....for hundreds if not thousands of Mexican nationals to be killed by guns sold to the drug cartels?....does you faith believe that blacks should attack and kill whites randomly and not be held to justice?.....,maybe your faith says its okay for you to give your tax money to support abortion?
"Registered voters" is astroturf.

boy, you guys do good work.....
a vote NOT for Romney IS a vote for bamey....
Nope. You will. You’re the one refusing to vote for the conservative, who would rather vote for one of the two radical liberals...
No one is twisting your arm forcing you to vote for a liberal.
