The U.S. Army announced it will no longer sponsor Ryan Newman's Sprint Cup entry at Stewart-Haas Racing or continue a presence in NASCAR after this season.
The team released a statement Tuesday announcing the U.S. Army made the decision as part of a reallocation of its marketing budget.
The U.S. Army has been a great partner of Stewart-Haas Racing since the team's inception. It has been a mutually beneficial relationship, with the U.S. Army introducing training regimens that improved our pit crews while instilling the mental, physical and emotional strength of the U.S. Army Soldier in all of us. We remain very proud of our representation of the U.S. Army and its brave Soldiers who are 100 percent committed to our country. We will continue to activate on behalf of the U.S. Army for the rest of 2012, while also growing our other dynamic partnerships at Stewart-Haas Racing for the future," said Brett Frood, Executive Vice President, Stewart-Haas Racing.
The Army has been in NASCAR for 10 seasons, and at one point was a primary sponsor. It moved to SHR to sponsor Ryan Newman in 2009 when the team was formed.

Made more sense than the US Postal Service funding a bike team.
Too bad for USArmy. Ryan New man will be ok.

Direct consequence of the “supercommittee” kabuki dance-—the Army is now slashing everything because of McConnell’s Plan “B,” which was designed to fail.
A win for liberals
Not too sure about that. If SHR can’t find sponsorship for Ryan next year he won’t be there. He’s already run some unsponsored races this year and the Army sponsors quite a few of his races. That makes it very difficult to continue his team next year. He would probably wind up at one of the start and park teams or an underfunded team but there’s no room for him at one of the major teams.
I guarnatee that these are now advertising in the sodomite media.
Before long the military will be like the SA under Ernst Roehm.
Does anyone know if this will affect the Schumacker top fuel car in NHRA? It sounds like it will.
Or the Air Force sponsorship in NASCAR or the National Guard sponsorship of Jr for that matter.
I have no problem with this. With the downsizing of our military, they no longer have a problem with their quotas. We no longer have the money to waste on programs like this.
Yes, I know we waste money on almost every federal program, and that needs to stop too.
They can use the money to sponsor floats in Gay Pride Parades.
Or the next Lady Gaga Tour.
A win for liberals??? This is a win for those of us who want smaller government and are sick of the Feds wasting money. And trust me, the DoD is no slouch when it comes to wasting money.
This is a pittance and not a harbinger of good things to come. This is leftist politics at work, nothing more. This is, simply, more loathing of the military!

“They can use the money to sponsor floats in Gay Pride Parades.”
Which will begin and end at the front steps of the Pentagon, amid great fanfare, of course.
