The other problem is the belief that “I’m just getting back what I paid in.”

Ummm...I will very gladly “cash out” my(and my employers) social security payments, with adjustments made to compensate me to an aggregate of A rated growth funds in the stock market over the last 40 years. With that, I’m pretty sure that I could retire right now. Thanks!

Maybe many voters are like you and won’t vote for the Disaster.

Some one should clearly explain to the voters that the Disaster is WRECKING Social Security to buy votes. It IS NOT BEING FUNDED.

If we can somehow get Obama out and win the Senate, we must, MUST, M*U*S*T starting cutting back on government benefits.

It irks my husband and myself that people who shack up apparently don't have the income and lodging of their lover considered to lessen the benefit amount. Some around my area live in very nice homes and that "extra income" buys them the latest movies, music, restaurants, etc. A revamp needs to be done and reality needs to set in for those using the system as a source of "play money."

Also, like OSHA, those on disability should be monitored for abuse of that claim. Some who claim not to be able to sit for jury duty are riding around for hours on garden tractors and ATVs. I suspect the abuse is HUGE since I hear a simple telephone call questioning them is all the "proof" government needs to substantiate the recipient is being "truthful."

That money you paid in has been spent already.

Now you’re demanding that the ponzi scheme continues after the investers above you have gotten their’s

Sorry, ponzi schemes are all based on a pyramid. What happens when the Pyramid inverts? There are not enough young people to keep it going.

“Just thinking out loud-the polls just make no sense to me-how can obama be so even with romney when things are so very bad?”

Obama is losing. What has changed for the better since 2010 elections? 2012 will be a repeat of 2010. Obama will lose big. Polls are wrong.

The gub’mnt doesn’t give folks a choice. When it comes to Social Security the recipients actually think they paid for it. Technically they are wrong of course, but why should I tolerate zoning for another assisted care facility ~ keep those ol’folks at home in bed upstairs eh!

Please to observe ~ the polls that have Romney and Obama "even" also have both of them BELOW 50%.

Ask yourself why we are running an unpopular candidate.

Depends on which government ~ California and Michigan and Illinois have quite munificent state and local government retirement plans.

If you retire at 50 as a federal employee, and were hired in at the average age of 35 ~ that would mean you would have 15% of your high three average years salary. This would be discounted 2% per year for every year under 56. So that would be a 12% trim job on your 15%, leaving you with 3% of your high 3 annual salary.

Let's say that salary was $75,000 per annum. Your 3% retirement would amount to $2,250 per annum!

I know there are folks in this world who'd be happy to get that amount but Freepers?

Death panels - that's the fundamental fix for SS & Medicare.

I agree with a lot of this premise.

In a perverse way the Baraqqi Depression has actually improved his chances of re-election, because of all the dependency that has been created.

Not the “normal” political result of a bad economy.

And most of the “dependents” don’t understand that the FedGov is just like that family in 2007 riding a wave of false prosperity based on credit cards and helocs with two leased luxury cars and a McMansion with negative equity.

They wouldn’t be on assistance, and the government wouldn’t have any to give them, if we the productive people stopped paying taxes.
If you’re serious about saving America, quit enabling its killer leeches.
Actions, not words.

That is a POLLYANA VIEW for sure these days. I have been harping on this issue for some time.

There are only TWO real Classes in USA today:

(1) The PRODUCERS (These are people who work for a living, and actually CREATE something while doing so, that someone else is willing to expend effort to acquire. That definition obviously excludes ALL the leeches working in ANY gubmint job or “service” industry like wall streeters and the useless “case manager” crowd that got inserted between healthcare providers and patients who only push paper around to justify their existence.)

(2) The TAKERS (that’s everyone who is not in Class #1)

The ONLY justification for the polling numbers showing Obamination STILL anywhere close to Romney (ignoring the inherent bias in most polls caused by oversampling libtards)is rooted in this single fact of life in these United States today.

Like it or not, agreeing or not, the simple fact is that The TAKERS are fast approaching 51%. They are presently way above 40% and with the “enlightened” and “progressive” among the Independents, CLASS #2 often controls the issue of the moment.

November 2012 will indeed be the most critical election ever, because it will be our last chance to slow down the headlong rush towards the cliff edge.

WRT your comment about”

“Most folks on unemployment compensation would rather have jobs. Ditto for many people on welfare. “

Once again, I’m afraid you’re taking the Pollyana view. While your quantitative descriptors “Most” and “many” are at least debatable, the fact remains that there are WAY TOO MANY people who are just fine with gaming the system to collect unemployment until it runs out then get a new job just long enough to reset the UI clock.

And, there are legions of welfare supported baby factories out there who can’t and in fact don’t want to keep their legs together (or take advantage of all that “free” womens’ healthcare) because they can make a very comfortable living by popping new humans out as often as they can.

We are in VERY DEEP yogurt on this issue. It’s dire effects were foreseen long ago and we have not spent enough effort to protect this once great nation from the ravages that Class #2 is wreaking on the rest of us.

In general I agree with your comments.

That’s why the economic depression is not producing the expected mass disdain for Obama.

The Baraqqis have used the “crisis” to generate a significant number of govt dependents - 99ers, EBT, disability, etc.
We’re close to the tipping point, we’ll know for sure in November.

Social Security is NOT “government assistance,” it’s a mandatory Ponzi scheme screwing old people out of their life savings. It’s “government assistance” only in the sense that the government has been assisted by ripping off our hard-earned $$$ and giving back a portion while pocketing the rest.

It’s the citizens assisting the government, not the other way around.

Does this include tens of hundreds of thousand of government employees retiring at 50 years old with top self tax paid health care and those tax paid lottery style retirement benefits?

That would not be the federal government employee now would it? Millions retiring at 50?

No. You live in a cave?

Local, city, county and state government employees such as cops, bureaucrats, fire departments and all the other tens of hundreds of thousands of unionized, over paid, non-federal government employees are literally choking private sector America off.

Where ya been?

Ya seen any nut cases around here suggesting federal employees are no different than private sector, are underpaid, have lousy benefits, with millions being laid off?

So you agree with Obama, "The private sector is fine, it's the government employees who need the help".

Yukyukyuk...

I'd bet money, at least 40 percent of people posting here are on the tax paid government welfare teet.
