I always say “what” through the glass, and if the police want to talk about something I say just a minute and go out the back to meet them in the front.
Just how often do the cops knock on your door? And if you know it's the cops, why go out the back door?
Seems like a good way to get yourself shot.

one time some cops knocked on the door looking for some girl that THEY SAID my son knew.

I don’t open the door for police without a warrant (not that they have ever come with a warrant) But I know, from my work, that cops can stick their foot in the door etc and that cops are dangerous. If they are going to shoot me on MY OWN PROPERTY FOR WALKING OUT MY OWN BACK DOOR, fine, at least my kids are safe inside and I would gladly give my life to protect my kids anyway.

I said what through the glass, they said they wanted to talk to my son, I said I would be there in a minute and went around. Sure enough, there was another one lurking by the hedge where you couldn’t see him. I spoke with them, asked if he had a card, said I would talk with my son and if we had anything to tell them, we would call.

I live in a neighborhood with a well funded police dept and nothing for them to do so they get excited and hepped up about the slightest thing.

The other day, my kid’s friend parked on the circle above our house and cut down the back yard to visit my kid. Well, the neighbor got all excited and called the police. The police came walking down the yard and said hey guys and the kids said hey and came inside and shut the door.

I mean, they are dangerous and have nothing to do here. I want no law enforcement contact. We make darn sure our cars are in perfect repair and follow all traffic rules. The police are on steroids and shouldn’t be called unless you want someone arrested or beat.

Probably because if you open the door to talk to a cop, they are always trying to peer inside to see if there is anything “in plain sight” that they can cite as probable cause to search.
