Last time I did that, it was a county Sheriff Deputy telling me someone had run over my mailbox. I "excused" myself by telling her that I needed to put pants on.
Had that happen to me once. Doorbell rang after 9:30 pm, middle of winter. I answered it with "friend" in hand, hidden behind the door. It was a neighbor's kid from the next cul de sac. He and his mom were driving around, handing out Christmas goodies. There I was, trying to stuff said "friend" in the back waistband of my jeans, while the kid is handing me a plate of cookies, hold the screen door for him, wave at his mom in the car, take the plate, and tell him thanks, all at the same time. Hubby was NO help. He was just doubled up on the sofa, laughing at me.
