That is so sad.

We don’t get bluebirds here because we have too many trees.

But we get plenty of other fabulous birds, God Bless.

We don’t have starlings here either, which you can also kill.

I got a starling story.

One night a snake climbed up to the upper eaves of our house and killed a starling nest. This was in our other house, in Merryland. Big ugly Adams family house but on a beautiful cove off of the Chesapeake Bay. How that snake got that high I dunno but in mid of night we hear squawking of starling and babies screaming, tulmult. Husband says, quietly as we were up late, “something’s got the starling nest.”

Now we know about snakes and nests and we kind of knew it was a black snake, baby birds being their favorite food.

The next day the father starling comes around and starts calling his family. Starlings have a kind of hoarse whistle and all day, all day, all day....serious, I cried, sobbed, at one point....all day he called his family.

He called and called and so bad I wanted to tell him his family is gone. He called and he called. At dusk he finally left.

They might be considered a trash species but to that male starling his family was everything to him. I truly think his pain was as deep and strong and the bass in his whistle.

But we do not get starlings here, thank God, nor house sparrows frankly, save they pass by.

One thing Delaware has a lot of are goldfinches. We didn’t have many of them in Merryland but here they are plentiful. Beautiful yellow bird, comes to my feeders sometimes.

Also had a blue bunting visit my feeders this year. I was psyched.

That’s Indigo bunting.

Stayed for ten minutes, munching sunflower seeds, me watching, still, quiet, jaw on floor.

He was a beauty.
