Because the federal government (maybe aided by Mexico) would bring massive firepower to bear against Texas. Same as it did last time. And Texas alone would not be able to defend itself successfully.

How about Texas being able to defend itself with 80 million people? Because that’s around how many (armed) Americans would end up living there.
