A chorus of prominent conservative voices is worrying aloud that Republican candidate Mitt Romney's play-it-safe strategy is jeopardizing his chance to win the presidency.
As President Barack Obama's campaign intensifies criticism of Romney's background, influential Republicans right-leaning leaders in business and the media charge that Romney's message on the economy and other issues is short on detail and muddled at best.
In an editorial Thursday, The Wall Street Journal said the Romney campaign is "slowly squandering an historic opportunity."
"The Romney campaign thinks it can play it safe and coast to the White House by saying the economy stinks and it's Mr. Obama's fault," the newspaper said. "We're on its email list and the main daily message from the campaign is that 'Obama isn't working.' Thanks, guys, but Americans already know that. What they want to hear from the challenger is some understanding of why the president's policies aren't working and how Mr. Romney's policies will do better."
The harsh critique comes as Romney nears the end of a weeklong vacation at his New Hampshire lakeside home, where he has been almost totally out of the public eye, except for a brief Fourth of July appearance. Polls show Obama slightly leading Romney nationally and in several states that are critical in the hunt to reach the 270 electoral votes needed to win the Nov. 6 election.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee
Agreed to have a battle;
For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.
Just then flew down a monstrous crow,
As black as a tar-barrel;
Which frightened both the heroes so,
They quite forgot their quarrel

Flashback:
RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE is hated by the MAJORITY of Americans.
So the stupid GOPe take the AUTHOR of the HATED
policy as their leader?
This was done ... to lose, but make more money
for Mr. RomneyCARE who will transfer the $$$$$ to himself.
So you have a problem who’ve made money and choose to use it? How democratic of you.
If only we could, but we are stuck with what the RINO leadership stuck us with.
No, I have a problem with feckless, RINO politicians who not only backstab and undermine Conservatives, but go on holiday when they should be fighting tooth and nail against Obama.
How many votes do you think he won over while on vacation and out boating on his lake?
John McCain without the military credentials.
Something about Romney just doesn't set right with me. Granted, I've never been a Romney supporter, but I followed the debates and Romney almost always took his cues from the other candidates. There's something in his voice that seems unsure of himself.
Repub convention is the end of august and the dem convention is the beginning of September. Good planning on the democrats part, because they'll be able within one week to end the republican convention bounce.
2 months from the end of the conventions we'll know the answer.
Romney badly blew a chance last week to nail ObamaCare and massive new taxes and massive government intrusion.
But, of all the candidates to carry that message, Romney is the worst. As Santorum frequently pointed out, Romney invented RomneyCare/ObamaCare. As demonstrated this past week, every time he opens his mouth about ObamaCare someone asks him how that compares with RomneyCare and he clams up. If their's is a tax, then his was a tax. If their's is massive government intrusion, then so was his.
And anyone who wants to get lost in the weeds on the differences in paragraphs 2.5b - 3.1c of RomneyCare and ObamaCare are not going to do anything other than lose the soundbite and lose the attention of the listeners.
Romney was the worst candidate the Pubbies could have picked, but he crushed his opponents with a combination of GOP-E/media complicity and enormous financial advantage. If he had been lacking the first, he never would have won. His money wouldn't have been enough. It will be a long, bumpy trek to November, pubbies, so you better tighten your seatbelts.
“A chorus of prominent conservative voices is worrying aloud that Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s play-it-safe strategy is jeopardizing his chance to win the presidency.”
The same people that could have beat him in the primaries if they stood behind a candidate instead of looking for Mr Perfect or running off whenever the MSM sneezed?
Romney has raised hundreds of millions and leads Obama in the swing states. Why the hell does he need to listen to the circle firing-squad gang? Because they now feel left out?
i’m not a Mitt fan..but he’ll have to do. one of my concerns was/is that he won’t go after Obama as hard as he went after his primary opponents.

And exactly how many people would be at a campaign rally on the 4th of July when they have to go to work the next day?
Swear if some of you are going to nit-pick, find something above the level of an MSNBC newsreader.
You're completely missing the point...
Well then you should say that, and not sound like one of those occupiers.
Enough to go see Obama yesterday in in Maumee, Ohio...
I see a man enjoying time with his family
I see a man behaving just like John Kerry.
