Goode faults Romney on immigration

Goode said that "amnesty in any form only encourages more illegal entry."

Before Mitt Romney's visit to Salem on Tuesday, former congressman and Constitution Party presidential candidate Virgil Goode held a morning news conference in Roanoke calling on Romney to take a stronger position on illegal immigration.

Goode said Romney "essentially gave no response" when it comes to the issue. Goode also criticized President Barack Obama's stance on immigration, including a new policy that would allow some younger illegal immigrants to stay in the country.

"Unlike Romney, if I was elected president, I would immediately rescind the direction of President Obama," Goode said.

He added that "amnesty in any form only encourages more illegal entry." Goode also said in response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Arizona's tough immigration law that if he were elected president, his attorney general would be arguing to uphold laws such as those in Arizona and Alabama.

Goode's event, held at Comfort Inn on Valley View Boulevard, attracted only a handful of media representatives and no other citizens.

Goode is currently seeking the required 10,000 signatures from qualified voters to make it onto Virginia's ballot in November. Goode, who said he did not have plans to meet with Romney during his trip to Virginia, has until Aug. 24 to get at least 400 signatures from each of the state's 11 congressional districts.

Goode said it's time for Romney to take a stand against illegal immigration, and while he wouldn't be talking with him, he said he was hopeful the media would raise such issues with Romney while he's in Salem.

Goode served in Congress for 12 years representing Virginia's 5th District before being unseated by former U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Albemarle County. Perriello held the seat for one term before losing to Republican Robert Hurt of Chatham last year.

“Can you guess which one?”

Well, not sure about #1, but #2 is true!

Evil? What did he do that was EVIL?

Did he CREATE DEATH PANELS like Mitt Romney?

Did he LIE about it like Myth Romney?

Did he backstab during the last Election like Team Romney?

If he was actually serious about defeating Obama he would have stayed a Republican and run in the primary.

Who holds the world's record for being stabbed in the back by the Republican Party?

The Conservative voter.

Thanks, Colonel.

The Romney supporters around here just don’t see what the GOP-E is. John Roberts gave another stellar performance last week of the true-blue, beltway insider, so there is more evidence right before us, but the Romneyites have to see it.

It’s not as if it’s in isolation, though. They have years and years of this stuff to look at, the most egregious being the time when the GOP had the House, the Senate, and the Presidency and managed to accomplish zilch except massive spending with no end in sight.

(Not to mention dalliances in airport restrooms and with male congressional pages.)

We need a new party, Colonel, and if the CP doesn’t cut it, then I’ll look elsewhere.

Goode was a Democrat before he joined the Republican party.

He then dropped the Republicans to join the Constitution party.

I don't think he wants Obama to win, but if takes any votes from Romney it can only help Obama win the election.

To me that would be a real shame.

If Romney takes any votes away from Goode it can only help Obama win the election.

The liberal vote is split between mitt and obie. If Conservatives will stop voting for the liberal and vote for the Conservative, mitt and obie will lose.

You’re quite welcome, sir. I find myself on your wing here. We do need a new party. The issue between us and others on this issue is that we aren’t willing to wait to start the process.

People like Virgil Goode and Tom Hoefling may not have a chance to win the election but I can vote for either of them and be able to face my own reflection in the mirror in the morning.

The difference is that Romney actually hopes to be elected. Goode knows damn well he won't be, and is only in it for the sport of it.

So is Mr Goode going to spend anytime criticizing Obama?

Because we know he won’t be President.

Out of curiosity, do you classify Mark Levin as a liberal?

On his show today he spoke at length on conservatives that say they can't/won't vote for Romney.

He feels the best strategy for conservatives is to use Romney to get Obama out, and then to elect Tea Party conservatives to Congress to control Romney.

I like his show as we get close to elections because he recommends candidates and gives his reasons why.

Like you, he’s wrong.

Levin and many other media conservatives could change this nation if they would call Mitt and Obama what they are...radical liberals...and come out swinging for a 3rd party candidate like Goode.

It would be the kind of shock this system needs.

Moreover, conservatives outnumber liberals and moderates, who splitting their votes between obie and mitt would see defeat at the hands of a united conservative vote.

Poor thing. If he can't win in the Republican Primary with Republican voters, he darn sure can't win in the general with Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

Playing at politics in a small pond is at best useless and at worst, counter-productive. He gets no brownie points or high marks for 'principle' for it.

Goode is the only rational consistent voice on immigration remaining in the race.

Agreed. In fact, large majorities of Americans support the Virgil Goode plan on illegal immigration.

Now - if they only knew that they did. It's up to us to show them.

Well, Mark Levin is wrong. And, regardless of how smart or jim dandy of a constitutional scholar he supposedly is (and, frankly, from what I've heard on his show, he's overrated), the reason he is wrong is because he isn't thinking, but reacting.

The party didn’t create the weak field and disunited opposition to Romney. It’s specious to blame ‘the party’ and ‘the voters.’

The primary mission in this election is removing the current regime from power. I won’t put any confidence in those, such as Virgil, whose efforts are counter-productive to that mission.

Don’t expect anything. Best insurance you can buy with the GOP-E is non-existent expectations.
