If we stopped electing liberal republicans 20 years ago, we’d have a conservative president now. So if we stop electing liberal republicans now, we might have a chance of electing a conservative one eventually. If we keep electing libs and playing the GOP musical chairs game, we never will.

We can’t stop electing liberal Republicans. There are simply states and districts and localities where the best you’re going to get are liberal Republicans. It’s one of the drawbacks to being a national party.

The benefit at least at the Federal level is control of committees, etc. If you’re referring to the Presidential Race I didn’t elect a liberal Republican - conservative candidates who wouldn’t drop out and coalesce around a single conservative did. By the time it got to me it was over.

My thinking, and I’m a conservative just like you, is that with Romney we’ve got a chance. Obama is a Cook County Democrat and a Black Liberation True Believer. I live in Cook County and they’re evil. I don’t believe Romney’s worse than that. I feel that with Romney we at least have a shot at a SCOTUS nominee who is to the right of Kagan.
