SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) -- Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante has gone from a rising political star to a felony sexual assault suspect.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday will detail the criminal charges it plans to file against Bustamante.
The 47-year-old councilman was arrested around 4:15 p.m. Monday, right before a regularly scheduled Santa Ana City Council meeting.
Bustamante faces multiple felony charges, including stalking, false imprisonment and attempted sexual battery.

Bustamante was elected to the City Council in November of 2004.
The charges against him may stem from his time as the director of administrative services for O.C. Public Works.
The OC Register has reported that Bustamante resigned from the job last October during an investigation into allegations that he sexually harassed female employees and gave promotions in exchange for sexual favors.

The big political news of the day happened yesterday: SanTana councilmember Busty “Carlos” Bustamante resigned from his job at the county while it investigates allegations that Busty had mucho sexytime explosions on the job with multiple colleagues. There are already calls for Busty to resign his council seat, and only Brave New Urbanists will miss the pendejo. Regardless, this sordid episode is the final nail in the already-dead political career of Busty, once hailed as the Great Brown Hope for the Orange County Republican Party. But it’s also a helpful reminder that the GOP is so desperate for any brownies in their ranks that they continually mine from the lowest, stupidest, most-perverted sectors of Latinos—and given our predilection for said attributes, you know they’re digging low.

Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante has quietly resigned from two state commissions he was appointed to by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, after his published remarks last month suggesting a candidate for Orange County sheriff could’ve gotten the job if he had breast implants.
Bustamante, a Republican, was appointed in January to the state Fair Employment and Housing Commission, but his nomination had yet to be confirmed by the Senate. He’d also been appointed to the California Council on Criminal Justice.
Plus there's alot of sex for sale, so why risk your career?

The general consensus is right on. Politicians are so stupid (all parties) that they continue to judge candidates by race, regardless of "the content of their character." A loser's game.
I judge politicians by their ethics, morals and knowledge beyond "how can we increase taxes?" Is he a true American? That's what matters most. If I never learn their ethnicity or sexual inclination, that's fine with me.
