While I do not agree with his politics I loved the Andy Griffith show and Matlock. He also had a great voice. I have one of his gospel CD’s and he could sing. I used to live in Mt. Airy and whenever he came to town he did not want anybody to know he was there. I never met him so I don’t know if it is true or not that he wasn’t kind to his fans. I find that part hard to believe though.
It bee correct.
Regardless of his personal politics, he gave us all one of the most believable, likable characters in television history. Those shows (especially the first five years, in glorious black-and-white) are still funny and lovable, even after 50 years. I still watch them on a regular basis on DVD.””
I raised 3 kids watching all the episodes on our complete tape collection. Contrary to the filth and marketing of perversion we see today, every episode of Andy had a good message. I suspect Andy became corrupted after living in and around homowood for too many years.
How nice for him that he was spared the death pill he hawked on the rest of us.
Well Golly, aren’t you special. Only the very shallow, ignorant person would exclude himself from basic civilities based solely on another’s political leanings.
RIP, Andy - you were a good cracker.
SS
How sad.
A great actor whose characters embodied those American truths that his politics made him disavow.
Strange, sad and ironic. A great talent. We won’t see his like again.
RIP.
Wow, just read that banjo virtuoso Doug Dillard of “The Darlings” episode died in May.
Thanks for posting that link. My wife and I will certainly be watching that night.
No. Not shedding a tear. He sold his soul with his recent obamacare sellout.
LOL
I agree with much of what you said. I never saw the episode you mention, but Goober, and especially Gomer, were pretty high on the creepmeter for me. I liked Barney and Ernest T., and the Darlings were great.
Amen!
If I’ve done the links right, you can watch the Mr. McBeevee episode here:

Rest in peace, Andy—
He was moe than a registered Democrat — he was a super-liberal to the core.
I saw him in a movie where he played “The Bad Guy” and he was so convincing he scared my cute little self!
Didn’t like his politics, but he was a versatile actor and musician.
