Schellnhuber even once publicly stated that 1 billion people would be the ideal human population for the planet, which would be like eliminating all the world’s people except China and letting them have it all to themselves.


I’ve heard and read estimates of 90 million being the ideal world-wide population. And knowing these kooks they would have everyone cooped up into possibly one city per continent.

Hussein, um, Saddam Hussein or his people figured out that they could make Iraq function with "only" 5 or 6 million out of the 26M they had in the early 1990s.

Of course, he was more interested in saving his regime, no matter how many of the 20M available for cannon fodder he had to lose, than in "saving the planet".
