Many seem to have missed that.
Back in 2010 when my congressman was a candidate he gave a speech and explained that we can't vote for him or anyone else only to walk away and assume they'll do the right thing. He said that we need to hang over their shoulder every single day and make sure they do the right thing. Fortunately I have a good responsive congressman though imperfect and that ain't easy as a freshman.
Unfortunately I see comments to the local paper complaining that he isn't doing anything because he isn't making national news and they aren't seeing fiery speeches. The people on both sides of the aisle are American Idle voters. They don't go out of their way to learn anything unless someone smacks them in the forehead with a mallet.

The only response I have ever received from a congressman was, “Send money,” paraphrased.
