PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans are sharply divided over Thursday's Supreme Court decision on the 2010 healthcare law, with 46% agreeing and 46% disagreeing with the high court's ruling that the law is constitutional. Democrats widely hail the ruling, most Republicans pan it, and independents are closely divided.
When asked what they want Congress to do now that the high court has upheld the 2010 law, 31% say they would repeal the law entirely and 21% would keep the law in place but repeal parts of it. A quarter of Americans swing in the other direction, saying they would like Congress to pass legislation to expand the government's role in healthcare beyond what the current law does. Thirteen percent want to keep the law in place and do nothing further.
Views on this question are highly partisan, with 65% of Democrats coming down on the side of maintaining, if not expanding, the law, and 85% of Republicans coming down on the side of repealing it, either in whole or in part. Independents are more evenly divided, with 40% in favor of keeping or expanding the law and 49% in favor of repealing all or part of it.

Americans who say they will vote only for a candidate who shares their view on healthcare reform are more likely to disagree than agree with the court's decision, by 59% to 36%. This translates to 12% of all Americans who say they will base their vote on the issue and who oppose the decision, and 7% who will base their vote on the issue and who support the decision. Thus, there is a slight potential net advantage for the anti-healthcare-reform position at the ballot box stemming from Thursday's decision.
Rasmussen, who polls likely voters, shows Obama benefiting by the ruling. Crap. Now I’m really worried
This information would be more illuminating if they would provide a breakdown by amount of taxes paid.
I suspect that the people wanting the government to maintain or expand the law would mostly be people that pay little or no taxes.
After this decision, I am too. No matter how bad Obama is, we should take nothing for granted. I just don't think Republicans have the wherewithal to defeat the Marxist POS.
Lies from those paid to lie. We know that at least 60% hate this law. Push poll for a predetermined outcome.
LLS
How do so many people change their mind in a day's time? I guess I have to deduce that Americans love a winner even if the winner is going to destroy them.
obama has lost every major election at the ballot box since he’s been elected...NJ/Va in 2009, Mass in 2010, midterms in 2010, Wisconsin earlier this month....most of these elections were not even close....
and while i agree we should play as underdogs and not take anything for granted, people understand obama is a failure....
GOP and rats aside, this is what matters from the above poll: “Independents are more evenly divided, with 40% in favor of keeping or expanding the law and 49% in favor of repealing all or part of it.”
that’s not “evenly divided” thats 20%-plus independents want repeal in some form...it was the independents, disgruntled GOP and white males that got mullah obama elected in ‘08, never mind the Catholic vote- they are turning against him and the “young voters” we heard so much about in ‘08 are also seeing the light of day...
Someone is lying. Every poll I’ve seen is 70-80% and higher against.
Those who like it do so because they see personal profit in Øbamacare. Wait until they get the bill. Wait until they see what passes for “care”. Wait until they see the wait.
Of course, it will be too late then...
49-40 is closely divided?
and 52% want at least some of it repealed
49-40 indies
and
52-38 overall
is
closely and sharply divided
The logic of all this is simple: Obamacare is now unquestionably LEGAL, and people like LEGAL. That’s what accounts for the shift on abortion that occurred after Roe v. Wade and related decisions. It’s what is occurring right now with gay marriage. (Of course, it does not hurt one bit to have the media cheering on all these “progressive” court rulings.)
The difference with gay marriage is that the polls tell us opinion is split but when people go into a voting booth it goes down in flames.
The biggest danger is milt will see this poll and then flip-flop on his opposition to obamacare.
Gallup sure has a funny way of defining 'CLOSELY DIVIDED'...nine points higher in favor of repeal among Independents.
Closely divided my ass.
