Updated at 7:38 p.m. ET: A soldier is dead and two others injured following a shooting Thursday afternoon at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, according to a statement released by the post. A senior U.S. defense official told NBC News that the deceased victim was a battalion commander.

WOW! I don't even know what to say about that, mega-fail on the part of those with that attitude. Imagine that all along I thought combat was the whole reason for the military.
[snicker]....Yeah, I thought so too, until a SGM told me that I was a "dinosaur". I was "old Army, old SF".
That was about 3 years before I retired in '99. Clinton's were still in office, and PC in the military ran amok.
PS- I'm not snickering at you, just the fact that we both took for granted the military was supposed to cause death and destruction, but in reality others thought differently.
Hubby says they did the same thing after Vietnam, tossed aside good and even great combat soldiers.
The Obama Administration has to convince the left that he has stopped the wars before the election. Our new “peace time” military will likely be cut further than ever in spite of issues with Iran, terrorism, etc. We will likely lose the best of the best as they will not tolerate the direction the military is headed.
This country never seems to learn the lessons it needs to learn so we keep repeating mistakes of the past.

Yes yes yes. It sucks to see this happen. Office dwellers who don’t go anywhere, get dirty, do PT, etc = LOL! Another promotion? vs Grunty type, up in the morning, boots on the ground = combat arms loser! Get a degree, dummy!

I was too busy hiding behind a rucksack whiel in the military. After I retired in '99, I was too selling my skill set and making a lot of money overseas. Now, I'm retired for the second time..........all without a degree.
I know- my husband still get dirty, and has to get up and do PT most mornings. We don’t see our extended families very often, and they always marvel that he looks young for his age because he still has to be uber physical and stay in shape...
He wants to go overseas as a civilian and make some money. He has one more list to wait on this summer, and if isn’t on it, off we go.
Not to be rude, but alot-not all, but alot- of the degrees people get while in service are from diploma mills. Enlisted folks I am talking about- not the officers. He could buy a degree and have it placed in his file, but alot of the institutions that claim to get you a degree aren’t accredited.
I doubt my husband will ever have a degree, but if he can use what he has learned in the military to go overseas like you did, we will be good.

The shooter was a thief who was going down due to his own mistakes. He took the guy who was in charge of his court martial with him.
Try to get with the program. Gays are in the military, but they are more visible amongst the REMFs and soft MOSes. I have a feeling combat arms and combat arms support units will not have a heavy infestation of sodomites. The job these types of units do is too dangerous, dirty, and non-glamorous for most-not all, but most, gay men.
Fort Bragg has the best warriors in the world. All business, fast tempo, quick deploying units full of high speed low drag heroes that would kick your a@@ and keep on movin’ to do their job- which would be killing the enemy.

In answer to your questions... I’m a US Navy veteran. I also have a son-in-law in the Army. As a matter a fact...I’ll be at Ft Bragg tomorrow celebrating the Fourth with my daughter and SIL.
I’m VERY proud of our military...but I am extremely upset with the leadership of this country as they weaken and destroy our fighting forces. The PC crowd is slowly sucking the life energy from the very people that have offered their lives to protect our liberty. I get tears in my eyes every time I visit the Vietnam War Memorial. That’s how much I care.

That may be difficult. Qualified overseas contractors are now a dime-a-dozen. The pool of people is gigantic, and the jobs are fewer, and the pay is less. There will be even less in 2014 when we start drawing down in A-stan. Tell him to start networking early, develop a good resume that civilians can understand, and maintain a security clearance, the higher the better.
It is wrong for you to make fun or call our Soldiers “gay,” or say that perhaps a Bn Commander was killed because his homosexual affair with a SPC in his BN was a love or sexual realationship gone wrong.
I hate the leadership of our country as well. Romney probably won’t change the policy of homosexuals serving openly, and that sucks.
Perhaps you have looked at the photo of the murdered BN Commander, and perhaps seen a photo of his Family mourning.
Nobody is ‘unhinged’ here...perhaps if your brave Son in Law was murdered by a fellow Soldier, you would be pretty pi@@ed a stranger insinuated that he was in a gay affair with his murderer? I am sure your daughter would think that was very hurtful, and rightly so.

I hope when you were at Ft Bragg you did not stride about sarcastically spouting your homosexual love triangle murder theory- though I doubt you’d be brave enough to do so. People there are respectful of the Military, and those who die in Service.
I am sure you are right. He does have alot of experience doing route clearance and IED removal, and has deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq and done both.
He has a good friend, a retired CSM, that currently works as a contractor,and is willing to help him.
I guess alot will depend on who wins this goldurn election. He spoke with a company a few weeks ago that was interested in him, and they said they have several employees currently on terminal leave and had 2 years of contracts to fill.
So scary. I am super mad that Obama and his gang of idiots are ruining our Military and Country.
