For you to say that it is splitting hairs to say that either government tells us how to live or people do, I guess means you think a statist society is the same as a free society. How pitiful.
Your statements factually are wrong and your logic is flawed. If it makes you feel better, I would say that morally your heart was in the right place but your brain failed to follow suit.
