Throw in Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds radio broadcast hoax on Halloween Night 1939 to the mix to get that sense of unprecedented, end-of-the-world, never-happened-before, Oh!-No!-What-are-we gonna-do, how-are-we-gonna-pay, when the Martians come to turn in their treasury notes?
