...Robertss historic hand on the scale Thursday was the only way to preserve a central role for private insurers in American health care in the years ahead. In this sense, Roberts epic choice is therefore not only small c conservative as a matter of judicial temperament but economically conservative to boot. What the chief justice has done is nothing less than save shortsighted partisans bent on overturning Obamacare from themselves. As I and others have long argued, a successful drive to overturn the Affordable Care Act, combined with a continued surge in the ranks of the uninsured, would almost certainly have put America on a path to a single-payer system, about whose constitutionality there has never been any doubt. The only way to move toward universal coverage via private health plans is to require everyone to be in the insurance pool and to offer subsidies to lower-income folks whod otherwise be unable to buy a policy. Conservatives understood these facts and supported this approach until President Obama decided to adopt their ideas and put real money behind them. ... The left is (rightly) cheering the vindication of Romneycare, which the president now has a legal green light to take national. Mitt Romney is assailing his own pioneering policy and vowing to scrap it at the federal level if he gets the chance. And Roberts is being trashed by supposed champions of the private sector, whose role in health-care finance has in fact been preserved by Robertss surprise switcheroo. That may not have been the chief justices intent his real motives and reasoning in this historic exercise of power may be known only to his wife but its the result. If conservatives had any sense of their long-term interests theyd be thanking him.

The proper term is "Fascism."
Maybe someone who is photoshop savvy can replace the RomenyPimp/Used car saleman guys face with JC Robert’s?
The author is not wrong. Obama offered to bring them 40 million new paying customers at gunpoint and they started to salivate. That’s why this was not destroyed early on with Harry and Louise ads.
And Ann “not my mawwwwwwww” Richards (Dimbulb) said that insurance rates would go down in Texas with “mandatory” car/driver’s insurance.
HA!
Try to remeber this ,,,, Commicare was sold as a mandate ,,, but defended as a tax before the SCOTUS . It occurs to me this was just another fraud perpetrated on the citizens by 0bama .
From now on the word mandate is defined as a tax .
Roberts is a statist who rewrote a law (somethings judges cannot legally do) to pave the way for Fascism.
He is a fascist with a big F.
The law says it is a penatly. That is what it is, not a tax. Roberts is with the Rat judges because he is intellectually dishonest and has an agenda.
Under Obamacare, the federal bureucracy has the power to dictate the terms and conditions of the insurance policies and even to dictate the ratio of expenses to premiums.
It’s not a free market model, it is designed to produce a few behemoth insurance companies that are completely intertwined with the federal bureaucracy.
The behemoth insurance companies would evolve into quasi-government entities like Fannie and Freddie before the crash, except even more entangled in the government.
Eventually, there will be an enormous financial collapse of these entities and they will be folded directly into the government.
However, just like the executives of Fannie and Freddie, the people placed into executive positions at these companies will be Democrat party hacks who will make enormous sums of money in those positions.
Ditto.
Just like the insurance industry. disgusting.
How so? The government simply undercuts private sector prices with tax penalties slightly cheaper than the cost of a private policy.
The tax or mandate is considered a premium for coverage the penality is a fine for not enrolling .
The author is 100% correct. I’ve been trying to tell folks that you are barking up the wrong tree if you try to say Obama is forcing socialism on us. He’s not. Truly. As much as I hate it this is not socialism. He would have implemented medicare for all if he was truly after a communist takeover of health care.
It’s actually far worse. I’s a total and complete handout of hundreds of millions to the insurance companies, that technically is capitalism. It’s corporatism at it’s absolute worst.
Bringing in corporate power is one of the few things I may actually somewhat agree with the left on. They HAVE gotten too big and powerful, and this is another example of it.
Bingo - 0bamacare is designed to eventually collapse the insurance companies and create a gov’t single payer system.
Bingo. I’ve never believed this is about cost affordability, insurance for all, no pre-existing conditions, or coverage for unemployed post-adolescent offspring. These are just shiny objects to influence the undiscerning, and 0’s statement hauled them all out once again. This is about the power and control over a huge segment of the economy and individual behavior. This is Fannie/Freddie and Solyndra to orders of magnitude. A gigantic amount of money is now available to reward interests who will contribute to his campaign. There will be uncountable exemptions to those important to the regime.
My small community has already received $24 million in implementation
funds, to “organize” the health care system to fit the vision. Most here are dazzled. The terrible results will occur down the road, but the system’s infrastructure will have grown deep roots by then.
Obama has said outright he favors a single payer and that it will take a few years to get there. "Single payer" does not mean a competitive free market. It means gubmint monopoly. And John Roberts just moved up the timetable for him today.
Chicago Law, anyone can be bought. Some have a higher price.
Exactly. Remember how it became impossible to reign in Fannie and Freddie because of their enormous lobbying power.
Obama received the most money from Fannie and Freddie than any other senator during his time in the Senate.
These giant quasi-governmental health insurance entities will become the most powerful lobbying entities in Washington.
Their profitability will be directly determined by the decisions of government bureaucrats and their pet members of Congress. All of their efforts will be toward influencing Congress and the bureaucracy to resist any movement to change their arrangements.
U 2 should talk 2 each other.
