Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act
News briefs coming from Washington report that the U.S. Supreme Court today upheld the constitutionality of all parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) including the so-called "individual mandate," which would require that nearly all Americans, from birth until death, have health insurance or pay a penalty.
The mandate has been upheld as a tax, according to SCOTUSblog, with Chief Justice John Roberts joining the liberal wing of the court.
BioNJ and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) supported many provisions of the law. BioNJ will be developing a series of reports and webinars in the coming week to help our Members better understand the implications of the Supreme Court Decision for the biotechnology industry.
BioNJ also intends to provide more detailed information on the decision later today.
