Yes, that would work. However, personally, I find it EASY “to believe that we can’t get enough of the public behind an anti-tax amendment to make it viable.” Since when have conservatives controlled 2/3 of both houses of Congress as well as 3/4 of the states?

It's a matter of getting enough of the public behind it to put pressure on enough of the softer Democrats to peel them off to our side. I think the right kind of anti-tax amendment would be as popular as the anti-gay marriage legislation is in the vast majority of the states.

Do you live in a conservative state and not realize how many liberals and apolitical people other states have? Do you read polling data?

Anti-gay marriage legislation passes in conservative states and in liberal states where legislation can be passed by the people via ballot initiative. But there will be no anti-gay marriage Constitutional amendment or anti-tax amendment. Conservatives who care enough about these issues to put pressure on politicians are only about 1/3 of the population. That’s not enough to get a Constitutional amendment through a rigorous process that needs nearly unanimous consensus. Sadly, too few people care. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong, but I seriously doubt it.
