The French get a minimum of five weeks paid vacation. Of course, in this time of crisis, very few can actually go on vacation. So they just don't go to work and stay home.
It used to be, back in the day, that a family with one or two wage earners could afford a second home, and take actual vacation trips.
It has never sunk in that if people don't work, nothing gets produced, You cannot run a modern economy with five week vacations and closing down the entire country for the month of August.

If it works why fix it?
France seems to be doing fine compared to other countries in Europe.
If they’re able to sustain themselves on 5 weeks why begrudge them?
