I remember reading that in Nixon’s final days, Alexander Haig contacted the Joint Chiefs and said if Nixon orders the military to occupy American cities to ignore the order.

I believe this was from a Theodore White book. My apologies to the author and/or Mr. White if this isn’t a accurate quote.
