I have only one question on the subject. How have the clowns in the federal government managed to kick the can this far down the road without total collapse? Never mind kicking it another generation, I really don’t understand what gets us through next month. I have been saying for decades that there is no hope for this country in the long run and the run has already lasted longer than I ever expected. It would appear that in truth we are in FAR worse shape than during the thirties but the smoke and mirrors keep people from realizing that.

Your comment is far closer to the reason why everyone is complacent as compared to the article. Remeber when even the stallwart conservative Dick Cheney said "deficits do not matter"? I have felt the country would go bust for 25 years. We have been playing financial games (as you note in your comment) for 50+ years and have apparantly, somehow , gotten away with it. The naysayers (like me) have been crying foul for over 40 years and the party keeps on rolling and more programs are invented. Why not be complacent? The naysayers have been wrong day in and day out for decades. This time it is different? I know this is going to unravel, but we still have several trick we can play, including paying off our debts with our own money. another part of the problem is that the naysayers, like me, base their arguments on morality rather than knowing the true nature of the balance sheet. Most people are not into morality based arguments. What has been going on for the last 50+ years is morally wrong and we have expected to see punishment for it...The punishment never comes and we look like silly little preachers (rememeber..deficits do not matter?). But we know in our hearts that the day of reckoning will come, who knows maybe it will happen in our lifetime.

What has been going on for the last 50+ years is morally wrong and we have expected to see punishment for it...

An immoral society produces immoral leaders, including immoral government officials. They are a part of society like everyone else.

Some points to add to the basic thread...

A) Business owners are the primary decision-makers for a business

B) Much of American business is not directly owned by individuals as is the case with owner-operated privately-held businesses. The owners of publicly-held businesses are millions of people with very little individual (personal, human) control over the business operations of the companies they own. For the most part, the board of directors and upper management direct the business. These people have, for the most part, very little concern about keeping jobs in America, which is a primary concern for the millions of shareholders they represent and work for, respectively. These people also have no concern for serving God or living according to Scripture.

C) Union leadership, leaders of education, leaders of many activist groups, publicly-held business management, leaders of lawyer associations, leaders of trade associations: these and other similar "powers that be" effectively write the legislation that Congress votes on. Communications between lobbyists and members of Congress take place behind an absolute veil of secrecy. Members of Congress not only don't write the legislation, they typically don't even read it before voting on it. Instead, they rely on their staff, which is composed of a group hired through a revolving door with lobbying groups.

D) The Executive Branch has begun to flagrantly i) disregard the law and b) work actively against the long-term sovereignty of America.

E) Congress and the Supreme Court have basically no power to cause the Executive Branch to submit to their will.

IMHO, it's no so much that the American citizenry has directly caused our predicament, but by allowing the defiance of God's law-word by politicians, from the local level and up, to become acceptable socially and legally, they now find themselves with government that defies God's law-word. Such a government then takes the next logical step and becomes hostile to God's law-word.

Why did the American citizenry allow this to happen ? Because of the corruption of doctrine within the various Church denominations. They lost their way from a doctrinal point of view, believing all sorts of heresies. This happened in the nation of Israel in the Old Testament various times and resulted in God's chastisement of Israel. It started in America about the time of it's founding, continued through the 1800's, and became disastrously salient in the first half of the 1900's. Post-WWII America, with all it's social decay, was simply a reaping of what was sown earlier.

Corrupted doctrine preached by preachers results in the people of congregations being led away from Scriptural truth to falsehoods. Once the population becomes misguided concerning God and the Bible, they lose a correct understanding of right and wrong. Such a population elects ever more immoral politicians and grows ever more tolerant of abhorrent behavior by them.

Our Federal government alone has now spent about $16,000,000,000,000 (about 8 years worth of taxes) more than it has received in taxes to date. And the money was spent satisfying the desires of those "powers that be" described above. This can only happen in a nation where the government does not do it's Biblical duty.
