We ran many, many Duramax engines hard and long trying to break our transmission and never saw any failure in the short block, ever.
We saw some cracked heads on the first year, and that was it.
One of my former techs runs one in a pulling truck over 1000 lb-ft torque and hasn’t had any short block issues.
Send me some links on those failures.
Not the Duramax (those blow headgaskets instead) but the 6.2/6.5.
I've been out of this for a while, but I though the Turda and Titanic were only big DOHC gassers. When did they intro diesels?
Back in the 80s they offered their compact trucks with diesels as an option. I was looking for something I could use to burn the large quantity of WVO I have access to as well as something more flexible on fuel than just gasoline. Instead of a diesel Nissan 720 or Toyota Pickup/Hilux, I got a Ford F350 PowerStroke.
Do Baraq, Holder, and Ray the Hood know you’re skimping on the fuel tax, LOL.
Don’t know, don’t care, don’t have the conversion kit yet because I have to save up for it.
Yeah I looked hard at nat gas, but the up front costs are too high to make it pay off in any reasonable time since I don’t drive that many miles. A home compression unit is about 5 grand.
It would be a mobility factor if there was a petroleum shortage (aka gas rationing ala 1973), but it’s a lot of money to spend for a backup system.
The home compressors also have an unfortunate habit of exploding.
The preferred multifuel kit for the PowerStroke is about $3K, but it enables the truck to run on waste veggie oil as well as other fuels like used motor oil in an emergency. I’d say that’s worthwhile.
