Social security is already means tested. The gov't decides how much you you "need" to receive when you get old. If you live in a trailer and only need to buy beer and pizza to live happily ever after, it might be enough, but the max payout probably is't enough to pay the utilities and pool boy in most gated communities. Scarcastic-but true.
The miracle is that they have a cap on what they take out of your paycheck each year. I expect the pay in cap will go before pay out cap is added.
They want to fix it so if you saved up a nest egg, and Social Security can be the supplement its supposed to be, you get screwed out of that portion of your retirement you’ve been planning for. Sound good to you? That’s what they want to do.
If all you have is SS, great for you. If you wanted more than subsistence and saved up to accomplish it, then screw you. This is the new normal. Which is why I saved, because I knew I’d get ****ed.
