That station broadcasts at 38,000 watts. That is a lot of wattage for an FM station. (by comparison, WBBM and WLS in Chicago are only 4,800 watts). He should ahve a very good coverage area including a large chunk of Jersey as well as metro Philly.
Yes and no. The first radio station I worked at was 50,000 watts, and it was in a market that was no where near the size of the Philly market. The station was in Dover Delaware and could (and can) be heard all over southern jersey and even in Philly.
FM signal is line of sight, AM signal goes with the flow of the terrain which is why at night you can get AM stations from hundreds and hundreds of miles away, which is not true for FM. .
