There is speculation the court may strike down the mandate in the law, but not the entire law.

3) The mandate states that everyone must buy insurance.
4) Severability is a clause that almost every other bill passed by Congress contains. It merely means that if one element of the bill is deemed to be unconstitutional or invalid, the other sections shall not be so deemed but can remain in effect.

By Congress deleting the severability clause, the normal action would mean if the USSC strikes down the mandate, then the rest of the law would also be invalid.

Mandate - can the law make you buy a health plan

Severability - can the mandate be separated from the bill and still keep the rest of the bill intact
