ASPEN — Living in a world where the population is topping 7 billion and temperatures are rising is going to be anything but normal.

A panel Saturday morning at the opening session of the Aspen Environment Forum painted an often bleak picture of how climate change is altering the world and how humans are dealing with the challenges.

The annual conference, presented by the Aspen Institute and National Geographic, is titled “Living in the New Normal” this year. The opening discussion carried the same name, but it soon became evident that there is no new normal.

“We're living in a new abnormal, perhaps,” said Dennis Dimick, National Geographic magazine's executive editor for the environment. He showed detailed graphic displays that demonstrate how global temperatures have increased 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since the 1970s. Projections indicate that summers in 2040 to 2060 will be “warmer than the warmest on record,” he said.

Go ahead and throw weather records out the window, agreed Kevin Trenberth, senior scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The atmospheric conditions are changing to the point where “every weather event is different than it would have been,” Trenberth said. “We keep changing the climate so there is no new normal.”

In the billions of years that earth has had an atmosphere, the climate has continuously been warming or cooling in an endless cycle.

But now goofball liberals have decided that the absolutely correct temperature that the earth should maintain eternally was whatever temperature it was the day before the industrial revolution kicked in.

These fools are obviously not scientists, and they do not base their crude political-social lusts on reality, but fantasy.

For example, there has been a dramatic, near worldwide reduction in the rate of population growth, to the point where the Earth’s human population is approaching stability. However, such stability never lasts, except to indicate the midpoint of increase or decrease.

That is, soon the world’s population may very well begin to shrink, *on its own*.

After WWII, one man, Norman Borlaug, was to a great extent responsible for the massive increase in the rate of growth of the human population, with his “Green Revolution” in agriculture. He is the equivalent of a “father of billions”, and he also prevented tremendous suffering around the world by ending most starvation, except that caused intentionally by evil local leaders.

But this also meant a gigantic baby boom. Which after this demographic bulge, population growth returned to a far more stable, if still strongly increasing, rate.

Yet this baby boom is now rapidly aging, and soon there will be a huge jump in the number of natural deaths of baby boomers, which will do much to force the population growth rate into negative territory.

That is, the Earth could lose a billion or more of its total number of people solely by attrition.

And as has been shown multiple times here on FR and other sites, the data used to reach this conclusion was faulty, if not outright fraudulent.

So, of course, if one uses faulty data as the baseline, any projections based on extrapolating said data will necessarily be faulty.

Unless a verifiable methodology is developed to determine the actual temperature change(s), over a significant period of time, any assertions made as to global climate change fall into the categories of guesswork and sloppy speculation.

And even if it can be shown that temperatures are rising, this doesn’t even get to the matter of what might be causing any fluctuations in temperature. That’s another ball of wax altogether.

And yet, we find ourselves in an environment of acute sensitivity to anything that might remotely enlarge our “carbon footprint”.
