WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration insisted on Thursday that it is modernizing the nation's nuclear arsenal in the face of withering criticism from Republicans that it is moving slowly in anticipation of President Barack Obama's push for further reductions.

Officials from the Energy, Defense and State departments provided the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with an update on the implementation of the U.S.-Russian pact, commonly known as the New START treaty, reducing both sides' nuclear warhead limit to 1,550.

So, basically their version of modernization is to disassemble a ton of old nuclear weapons and replace them with... nothing.

The undocumented Tyrant made DEALS with Putin which
he was exposed PROMISING to carry out after the next Election.

The entire US Congress saw the videos and actually
shut up and went along with the
treason for a few promises and payoffs.

W76-1 warheads are being produced by the NNSA at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. They plan to produce 2,000 by 2018. The W76-1 warhead is refurbished W76 warhead with a new nuclear explosive package, arming, firing, and fusing system, gas transfer system, associated cables, elastomers, valves, pads, cushions, foam supports, telemetries, and other miscellaneous parts.

Wasn’t the W-76 reliability in question, hence the W-76-1 mod? This was a widely publicized issue.

Ok, that’s nice, but if we already have a bunch of nuclear warheads, and Obama is reducing the maximum number to 1,550 via this treaty, then that plan to produce 2,000 new ones seems like it is not part of Obama’s plan.

Oh. So I should take all the furnishings out of my house, invite my friends over, and tell them it’e the newest thing—Obama Modern.

A reduction in deliverable nuclear warheads make war more likely, not less. The logic for this is follows:

If each side has sufficient warheads to assure “MAD,” which is Mutually Assured Destruction, additional warheads beyond this point are totally irrelevant. However, when one or both sides have a level that does not give absolute MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION, each side is then tempted to try thermonuclear war.

As odd as it seems, more nuclear weapons possessed by each side makes the world safer.

I was 18 years old when I figure this out. Ray Rebstock beat the hell out of me with a beer bottle. He had one in his hand and I did not. Unilateral disarmament did not work out to good for me that night.

1,550 is the maximum number of warheads we are allowed to have deployed on ICBM, SLBMs and bombers.

We can have as many warheads in reserve as we want.

Ah, that makes more sense, thanks for the clarification. I still don’t trust this bastard to make any deals with the Russians though.
