You mean selling guns illegally isn’t a crime? Getting a border agent murdered then covering up the details isn’t a crime? Lying to Congress isn’t a crime?
If it wasn’t a crime, why were there whistleblowers? If no crime was committed, why were people questioning the illegal sales and illegal distribution. If it wasn’t illegal, how were all those people killed? If it wasn’t illegal, how was Brian Terry murdered?
So, all of this obfuscation because you are concerned about a comparison that doesn’t exactly meet your requirements seems more like a distraction than an actual argument.
What you are saying is that you’d LIKE to think nothing illegal happened here, but nobody knows and we want to find out. This exact moment happened during Watergate. The only reason it is different to you is because 1.) nobody knows the future or what will come to light in this story so 2.) hindsight is 20/20 when you know all the information about the situation after it comes to light.
So, sorry it doesn’t fit the exact issue of wiretapping, than covering it up, than trying to get investigations to cease, but it does seem to fit the issue of illegal gun trafficking that led to murders that led to coverups that led to asking a body of government to cease an investigation in exchange for information (coverip/blackmail/immunity bargain, call it what you will), and Obama has inserted himself by claiming EP, the exact thing Nixon did when his coverups started to fail. Do you need wiretapping in the situation for the comparison to work?
There is more to this, so compare it to whatever you want, but it stinks and even you know it.

I think that the biggest difference between the Gun Runner Operation and the Watergate Operation is that Nixon didn’t have prior knowledge of the crime. I think that Obama was in on the GunRunner Operation from the get go.
I think that is the reason for the Executive Privilege. I think that Holder told Obama that if he didn’t invoke Executive Privilege, he was going to take Obama down with him.
