Truth Hurts

I would like to think David Maraniss knows exactly what he was doing...as a historian he was correcting a rewriting of history. The world needs more honest historians like him. How much of ‘Dreams From My Father’ was actually written by Obama rather than Bill Ayers?

Where’s the part Maraniss says that he didn’t write those “memoirs” in the first place? I thought he was a historian in checking Zero’s book, but I guess that was just one too many Ayers.

I would like to think David Maraniss knows exactly what he was doing...as a historian he was correcting a rewriting of history.

And therein lies the problem. Maraniss is akin to the self-hating Jews out there who voted for Obama. He wanted to make sure that the historical record is correct for the purpose of "vetting" Obama in a second term, but what it has done is paint Obama as a liar in more ways than even the most discerning reader could allow for something considered an "autobiography."

RUSH: Are you following? Am I the only one who's incredulous over this?

No, Rush, we're all on the same page here. Obama's a liar, an historian set his supposed autobiography, expected under normal circumstances to be non-fiction, finds and reports the facts, and the Left lambastes him while he tries to backpedal to save his "good Democratic name."

This is just so fun to watch. It's a perfect example of how truth always wins in the end.

Maraniss needs to recognize that either he’s a tool for the Obamunist establishment or he’s an historian. He can’t be both.

“What he’s doing is demonstrating that nobody read Obama’s books. Well, that’s not true.”

Actually, I think that IS true! I don’t think there are 20,000 people alive today who actually read both of Obama’s books. Those are the kind of books it’s fashionable to have sitting about, but people don’t actually read them. I think I might have to read Dreams just to have some fun with Dem leaning friends.

The book is a joke, not unlike the subject of the book.

I thought after I retired I would get to listen to Rush uninterrupted but the opposite is true. I have to hear him on his 24/7 site although I did hear most of this. We actually had a RUSH ROOM at my business about 1990 so the blued haired ladies in their tennis shoes could listen to him while they had their cars repaired. He did two RUSH to Excellence shows here by popular demand. Remember the Timber Updates? This area loved him as did the timber companies

I'm not a fact-checker here, I'm a historian. I'm just helping get the record straight.

A fact checker had better be an historian...

Well, another post I wish I could pull back...

I meant, "An historian had better be a fact checker." Sheesh!

So if there is a white person in Obama’s past who is NOT an antagonist, he has no need to mention them. Interesting.

Clearly Maraniss never took the work of lefties Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida into account. Those two all but created the idea of literary deconstruction. Simply put, a written work takes on whatever meaning the reader wants to give it. The original thoughts of the autho/creator become unimportant. As it happens Maraniss’s anecdotes about Obama’s drug use and literary creativity are now out for anyone to use in a good series of ads. FWIW Maraniss’s book about Lombardi was outstanding.

"Obama's mother left his father, not the other way around." Everybody's of the opinion that Obama's dad ran off, Barack Hussein Sr., Barack Kardashian Sr. ran away. It's his mother that left his father.

??????????????????????????

She did take off for Washington State early on. Was that her leaving him, or just a stage in the relationship? Was that the end of the marriage, or was it when he left for Harvard and she didn't follow him there? Was there even a marriage to begin with? (I don't mean a wedding, but cohabitation on an ongoing basis)

I suspect there was a lot of passive-aggressive stuff from Sr. along the way -- the "I'm doing this and I don't care what you think or what you want -- you can come too, if you want to" sort of thing. "Leaving him" may just have been a matter of not following him when he went away.

Seems a bit hard on Maraniss. We all have to start from somewhere, and it's pretty clear where a WaPo reporter or editor starts out from.

It's where you end up after you follow all your leads that counts. Compared to, say, David Remnick, another Obama biographer, Maraniss sounds like a pretty decent person -- not perfect, maybe, but somebody who follows what he has where it leads.

The money quote"

If somebody went out and started doing a biography on me, there's not one thing you'd learn about me that you don't already know, for all intents and purposes. I have not lied about various aspect of my life for authenticity or whatever. But this guy is obsessed with race. He is obsessed with coming off as authentically black. It's troubling. It's disturbing. Who does this? Who does this kind of stuff? I can't quite put my finger on it, but this doesn't jibe. And we're talking about somebody who is president of the United States, and we have people excusing it! They're making excuses for it.

“Many of the mythologies in the book were just passed along to him by his own family.”

Like the one where they told him he was born in Hawaii?

Ha, that’s great. We should start calling these “Myths From His Father” or “Ayer-rors”.

Seems a bit hard on Maraniss.

I had seen the Piers Morgan-David Maraniss interview on CNN. I was somewhat critical because Maraniss seemed to be making excuses for the President. I will concede my negative view did receive a check, when I later saw the excerpt regarding Barack Obama's Kenyan grandfather.

The aunt had described the inhuman torture of the man by the British. The Gestapo would have had nothing on them. Maraniss goes to about five sources in Kenya that declared the man was imprisoned, but in no way tortured.

I went to Indigo Booka of Canada and saw that they have the Maraniss book. Only $23 or so. I will certainly give him a fair shot and will order it. Certainly we can all agree to disagree and again I know David Maraniss will go to the wall for the President.

Maraniss doesn't appear even to know what a "historian" is. He is the poster child for "obtuse."
