So I exaggerated a little, just seems like I get use to a version of windows and along comes yet another. I have windows 7 and all I hear about is window 8. Crap, get window 7 cleaned up and secure before you force me to go to window 8.

Hogwash. They are only phasing out support for XP next year, and it was released in 2001. That’s 12 years of support. If they follow a similar time frame, you can use W7 and get support until 2021.
