Marco Rubio Not Being Vetted to Be Mitt Romney’s Running Mate
ABC ^

Posted on 06/19/2012 4:12:44 AM PDT by Perdogg

Even before the Republicans chose a presidential nominee it was widely assumed that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., would be at the top of anybody’s list of vice presidential candidates. The reasons are obvious: Not only is he young, charismatic and wildly popular with conservatives, but he could also help Republicans win a key state (Florida) and make inroads with Hispanics.

To be honest I am not sure about Romney’s being a Natural Born Citizen.

Wasn’t he born in Mexico?

What a friggin mess.

I’d like to hear more about Governor McDonnell of Virginia. This notion that the party must find an Hispanic VP candidate in order to pander to that group is a total loser. We already know how many votes years of pandering by Juan McCain won in 2008; the lowest Hispanic vote in recent history for a Republican candidate.

And Rubio now looks like panderer #1 as he tries to sell one more poorly disguised amnesty for illegal alien plan. The last thing the party needs is anyone on the ticket pushing amnesty schemes to compete with the Dims for Hispanic votes.

‘And yes, her parents are natural born, in case anyone is wondering.”

It is not necessary for her parents to be natural born, they only need to have been citizens at the time of her birth in the US.

“What evidence is there that Rubio is not eligible to be President”

Marco's parents were not American citizens at the time of his birth. Obama’s father also wasn't an American citizen at the time of Obama’s birth. Mr. Obama senior was a Kenyan, a British subject when junior was born. So who cares where junior was born...HE ISN'T QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT.

“Wasn’t he born in Mexico?”

No hid father George was born in mexico to US citizen parents making him a US citizen. (George was not an NBS but that is not necessary for Mitt to be a NBC...born in country to citizen parents........is the standard for president.

The Constitution says nothing about the parents... Had Marco been born in Cuba then yes he can’t run.. Did Marco go through a naturalization ceremony??

Mario “Dream Act” Rubio who attacked AZ’s immigration/ILLEGAL ALIEN law and refused to join the Senate’s Tea Party caucus.

Rubio is just another GOPE RINO....

tsowellfan,
Does it matter where he was born? The President's father wasn't an American citizen at the time of his birth.
To be honest, I don't care where he was born.

Susana Martinez is very new. She’s a great lady with a bright future, but this isn’t the right time.

First, we should not take ANY conservative (even one who has pro-illegal leanings) out of the Senate.

Senators make terrible Presidents (Harding, JFK, LBJ, Obama) and worse candidates (Stevenson, McGovern, Dole, Kerry, McCain - I'm sure there are others).

There is no Senator - and there is unlikely to be one in the future - who should be seriously considered for POTUS or VP.

Born a Cuban on US soil. Put him in the Cabinet, Secretary of something.

Correct.

Cuba makes claim to Marco Rubio as one of their own citizens. Rubio was born to Cuban citizens at the time of his birth. Cuba ONLY sees him as Cuban. They do not recognize Rubio's US 14th Amendment citizenship.

"Dual Nationality

The Government of Cuba does not recognize the U.S. nationality of U.S. citizens who are Cuban-born or are the children of Cuban parents. These individuals will be treated solely as Cuban citizens and may be subject to a range of restrictions and obligations, including military service."....

It's no wonder that Romney would not vet Rubio as a VP since Cuba claims Rubio as their citizen.

Significant to why NBC matters as a qualification. Alliance to US citizens country and laws, without complication or consideration of some other foreign heritage or interest.

The VP is the “president” of the senate. He breaks the ties.

Rubio would be a good choice tactically.

The constitution says ‘natural born Citizen’. I was very clear what that was and still is. The immigration act of 1790 made it clear that being born to two US Citizens was the key criteria and would allow one to be ‘considered as’ a natural born Citizen. Note that punctuation (no hyphen) and capitalization of the C in the act were exactly that of the Constitution. Congress wanted to drop the jus soli requirement and rely solely on jus sanguinis. So blood is thicker than dirt when it comes to being an nbC.

The situation with Rubio and Jindal, who I really like as well, is probably much more cut and dry than Obama’s.

Both of their parents were not yet US citizens at the time of there birth. So their parentage citizen status is better defined than Obama.

I think if the Obama case ever got into court on its merits they would rationalize that a US citizen mother gives him jus sanguinis. But that case can not be made for Rubio or Jindal.
