South Carolina Democratic leaders are trying to decide whether to support a convicted felon running for Congress as a Democrat.
Bryan Lamont "Ryan B" Doyle of Aiken won this week's Democratic primary the state's 3rd Congressional district, which stretches along the state's western edge.
Federal court records show the 37-year-old Doyle was convicted in 2003 on six felony counts related to Medicare fraud and making false statements, resulting in a 30-month prison sentence. Doyle claims he was framed after his signature was forged.
South Carolina law prohibits convicted felons from serving in state office. But there is no law barring felons from seeking federal office.
State Democratic Party chairman Dick Harpootlian said Doyle's criminal record doesn't necessarily disqualify him for Washington, where fraud is a way of life.
Truth and irony from the AP in the same sentence. Amazing.
But there is no law barring felons from seeking federal office.
Why not?.
in years past, known members of the maffia have been elected to Congress. There is no requirement to pass a security, criminal or financial investigation to serve. One of the few jobs in WDC where you do not need a security clearance.
“counts related to Medicare fraud and making false statements”
So? He’s a democRat!
Youthful Indiscretion.
Silly Leftist, Democrats running for office are supposed to have a criminal future, not a criminal past.
Democrat Party resume enhancers . If he could just add a crime that’s sexual in nature he’d be a shoe in. /s
From the Party that nominated Alvin Greene to run against Jim DeMint.
If you cannot pass a background check, you don’t serve, period.
So, in essence, the attorney general could be a convicted felon and be the chief law enforcement officer in the US, de facto in charge of ALL police forces in the nation?
We are going to pay for this insanity....
This is news? we have a gaggle of criminals in DC already elected. One more for the posse

"That's not a bug, it's a feature."
Can they be that stupid?
“”six felony counts related to Medicare fraud and making false statements,””
Congress is the perfect place for him. If he’s a very good liar, the WH is also a possibility....

I might add - if he’s an attorney, DOJ is another place where he could seek employment. They excel in lying over there also. Heck, there’s no limit to the possibilities for employment for this guy.
Fits right in with the current pack of libturds in DC...
Sounds perfectly qualified to run as a Democrat!
