Travyon Martin shooting: Gun store owner a George Zimmerman witness

SANFORD, FLA.—A new list of evidence in the George Zimmerman case includes, for the first time, the names of several civilian witnesses—including several local firearms dealers and instructors—but it remains unclear what their roles will be in the neighbourhood watch volunteer’s prosecution, if any.

Among the newly named witnesses is Khaled Akkawi, owner of Shoot Straight, and several of his employees. Why? Akkawi told the Orlando Sentinel the Federal Bureau of Investigation paid him a visit several weeks after the shooting with a photo of Zimmerman, wanting to know if Zimmerman had been to the chain’s gun stores and ranges.

But according to Akkawi, there is a stronger connection to Zimmerman’s shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

“He bought the gun from us,” Akkawi said.

Earlier Friday, Akkawi—who stresses that he is a strong supporter of Florida’s stand-your-ground law, which has come under fire since the Feb. 26 shooting—expressed surprise when told he was named as a witness in the case. But after thinking about it further, he said there were several possible reasons.

In addition to the gun sale, Akkawi said, Zimmerman visited Shoot Straight’s Casselberry location on multiple occasions, had fired on the ranges and interacted with employees. The store also is a major National Rifle Association recruiter, he said, and his employees have testified in court as experts in the past.

“make it harder for someone who starts a fight to end it with deadly force...”

1. Zimmerman didn’t start the fight. He called police to come get the guy.

2. Why would a guy armed with a gun start a fist fight?

This whole damned case is severely prejudiced and twisted against GZ, and now his wife.

OJ Simpson is now in jail for 33 years, technically for taking the law into his own hands reclaiming self-storage items that were auctioned off, but politically for killing Nicole. It's disturbing the courts can sometimes act politically but few are shedding tears over that one.

Let’s lay out it there. The left-wing commie scum traitors in the FBI are fishing for evidence to use against Zimmerman in a federal kangaroo court.

Agreed. The Feds put Al Capone (and others, too) away on an income tax evasion (or something) charges, but never got him either, for all those mobland murders. I know tax evasion isn’t political, but the “devil’s in the details”, ain’t it?

Outside of bar room drunken brawls and dope deals, the likelihood of that occurring is extremely remote.

Not to be argumentative, but that wouldn’t technically be a “suicide.”

True. I forgot to say she shot him then killed herself.

Trayvon was trying to take Zimmerman's gun away from him, presumably to shoot him with it. He may have been "unarmed" but he was attempting to arm himself with a stolen weapon.

It sounds bad that witnesses are being identified. Maybe the idea is that between now and the trial they will be intimidated into changing their stories or refusing to testify.

The Shoot Straight by my house is in the news today. I’m sure they will be going after them too.

While the Zimmerman/Martin ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by a gang of feral blacks in Oklahoma just a few months ago?

The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition. The old gentleman DIED from his injuries a few weeks ago.

The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.

Can you just imagine the pain, the humiliation, the horror that dear old lady experienced being gang raped by that pack of feral animals?

(the autopsy states she was raped. Don’t think all of these animals didn’t all participate)

And can you imagine the pain, the horror of that dear old husband having to witness this?

There’s a lot more involved here than a home invasion and robbery.

WHERE ARE THE CHARGES OF A RACIAL HATE CRIME??

90 year old husband’s jaw broken and shot in face with a BB gun numerous times?

85 wife year old semi blind wife RAPED and BEATEN to death??

Why does it take a foreign press to enlighten America as to this henious crime?

WHERE IS THE NATIONAL OUTRAGE?

Have they caught the rest of the gang of feral blacks who raped, tortured and murdered this elderly woman? Are they even looking? Not a word about it in the media.

“he is a strong supporter of Florida’s stand-your-ground law, which has come under fire since the Feb. 26 shooting”

Even though Zimmerman is not asserting a Stand Your Ground defense. Which for some reason news reports never mention.

“now that’s troubling. So a person’s guilt or innocence (or having new charges created) could depend upon what emails you’ve received/sent and the websites you’ve looked at?”

It’s not all that troubling. I mean, they have to justify the “depraved mindset” required for muder two somehow. What’s really troubling, still troubling, is that they charged him with murder two in the first place.

“make it harder for someone who starts a fight to end it with deadly force”

No, that’s not what they want. They want to stretch what constitutes starting a fight to its outermost limits to including watching, following, and talking to someone.

“Why would a guy armed with a gun start a fist fight?”

That’s simple: to be able to argue self-defense after they murder them. This is what much of the internet, to say nothing of the saner parts of our society, believes happened, i.e. that Zimmerman deliberately either started the fight to shoot and lie about Martin starting it later or goaded Martin into starting the fight so that he could get the head wounds necessary to shoot him. The fact that there’s no evidence whatsoever for this theory doesn’t slow them down.

“I know tax evasion isn’t political”

Oh yes it is. In Capone’s case it was not only political but actually insane. His conviction was based on the notion that you have to report illegal gains as income on your tax return, though being illegal it can’t be legal income can it? As if they’re legally required to shout from the rooftops, “Hey, I’m breaking the law! Come get me!” Like not confessing to your crimes is suddenly a crime.

I actually think it might be in violation of the 5th amendment’s protection against self-incrimination. It makes absolutely no sense, but a murderer went to jail so who cares?
