I understand what you are saying and in theory, I agree 100%. But fat parents tend to produce fat kids, not because of genetics, but because of bad eating and bad nutrition. Expecting a fat parent to teach their fat kids about nutrition, healthy food choices, serving sizes, etc., is like asking alcoholics to teach their kids about the dangers of drinking, slut mothers to teach their daughters about the virtues of abstention, and lazy fathers to teach their kids about the upside of hard work.
You are right, but do you want the government in charge of all those things??? Really??? I don’t. I don’t think the government will do any better job than the sorry parents.
If a child is being truly neglected or abused someone must step in, government agencies do that now and look what a messed up system that has turned out to be. That is a necessary evil, darned if we do, darned if we don’t. Do we really want government agencies making decisions about what we can and cannot eat or drink? Do you think the government could not find fault with something you think is ok to eat or drink? It would just lead to more and more government control and craziness.
Has is occurred to you that if soda or popcorn or what have you comes only in small sizes those that want more will buy more small items instead of one large one? What will that solve?
What about the business point of view- if you are in the business of selling food or drink would you want the government deciding what you can or cannot sell and what size container?
Where does it end?
How does all this fit in with the fact that we are rapidly losing our freedoms, our economy is in the tank- not to mention the threat of terrorism. I think we should worry about these issues before we worry about how much soda or popcorn a fat person should be allowed.
